Eric Pollard And Line Make Turning Fun Again, Debuting New Sakana Ski Model

For over twenty years, Line Skis has been pushing the cutting edge of ski development. From its inception, the upstart brand has prided itself on innovative shapes, revolutionary design, and the unrelenting desire to redefine what it means to ski.

It is from this ethos that Line – alongside legendary skier and designer Eric Pollard – debuts the LINE Sakana. At 105mm underfoot and featuring the similar tail swallow tail seen on the revolutionary Pescado, the Sakana is designed to integrate powder design elements and tailor them towards a more hard-snow oriented experience. It can slice, cut, and arc across all snow conditions – thanks in large part to the ultra-quick turning radius – and offers unmatched edge-grip and energy because of the proprietary Carbon Flax Weave.

From its introduction at trade shows around the world in early 2018, the Sakana (translates to ‘fish’ in Japanese) has garnered tons of attention for its unique shape and artistic graphic elements – attributed to visionary Eric Pollard. “People look for a signature feel out of the skis I design,” says Eric Pollard. “My skis are designed to flex and turn in a non-traditional way – and the Sakana does just that.”

In any-and-all pre-season Ski Tests, the Sakana swam to the top. Powder Magazine has recently named the Line Sakana the Ski of the Year for its quick, fun feel in both powder and hardpack conditions. Freeskier Magazine gave it the nod as an Editor’s Pick, as did Backcountry Magazine. There’s no doubt that this ski isn’t some gimmicky marketing ploy - these fish friggin’ swim!

Building off of this momentum and industry approval, Line and Eric have teamed up once again to present “Burning Sidewall”, a short film produced by Nimbus Independent which highlights exactly what the ski is capable of. Featuring the talents of Canadian Rob Heule and Pollard himself, the film is less of an explanation of the ski but rather a celebration of skiing. Shot in Pollard’s backyard of Mt. Hood, Oregon at Timberline Lodge, “Burning Sidewall” chases Rob and Pollard as they carve, slash, and blast through the rolling terrain that has been so instrumental in shaping and inspiring Eric for the entire course of his career.
