Eastern Swiss Cable Car Association: Cable Car Teaching Association Holds First Course

Shortly after the start of the new apprenticeship year, the first two-day course took place on Flumserberg.

The topics: fire protection and safe behavior at heights. Marco Guggisberg from the Flums-Grossberg fire department and Fabian Schocher from the Flumserberg cable cars instructed and accompanied the trainees on the subject of fire protection on the first day. Here, the young people were able to learn more about small fire extinguishers, extinguishing principles, suitable and unsuitable extinguishing agents or what to do in the event of an alarm.

On the second day, personal protective equipment against falls from a height (PPEgA) was used. Michael Germann from Immoos GmbH led this interesting course with the following focuses: legal principles, material science, proper use of PPEgA, securing and workplace positioning as well as practical application of what was learned on the cable car support. Eight trainees from the 1st and 3rd year of training completed this two-day course. The feedback was extremely positive:

  • Sora Paulsen, cable car mechatronics engineer EFZ in the first year of training at Kraftwerke Linth-Limmern: "It was a childhood dream to work for a mountain railway. I have now been training as a cable car mechatronics engineer EFZ for two weeks. The safety course is exciting and important in order to be able to carry out work at heights with the necessary safety."
  • Colin Dietrich, cable car mechatronics engineer EFZ in the 3rd year of training at Pizolbahnen AG: "The best thing about the training network is the assignments at external companies. In the autumn I can spend two weeks at a company with a cable car and gain insights into another company. The joint courses with apprentices from the 3rd and 1st year of training are interesting. We can give the new apprentices valuable tips."
  • Silvan Beglinger, cable car mechatronics engineer EFZ in the 3rd year of his apprenticeship at Bartholet Maschinenbau AG: «The job is very varied. I am particularly interested in the technology and mechanics of the different types of cable cars. The safety course teaches us how to use personal protective equipment correctly.
