Dr. Andy Chen Named Chief Medical Officer For USA Nordic
Dr. Andy Chen has been named the Chief Medical Officer for USA Nordic, the national leadership organization for Nordic Combined and Ski Jumping in the United States.
As Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Chen will oversee the highest level of care to elite team athletes and staff, promote health and well-being for the USA Nordic family as a whole, and to scientifically evaluate athletes to determine training needs and focuses. In addition, Dr. Chen will serve as a medical liaison between USA Nordic, U.S. Ski & Snowboard, U.S. Anti Doping, and U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee to ensure that care is set forth with a high stand of care for all athletes.
“Since becoming involved with nordic combined and ski jumping back in 2004, Dr. Chen has built our unwavering trust as a team physician and we couldn’t be happier to see him grown into this new role,” says executive director Bill Demong.
Since becoming involved in nordic sport back in 2004, Dr. Chen has worked two Olympic Games- the historic Vancouver 2010 Olympics as well as the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics. The team now eyes Beijing 2022, which is less than two years away. “I’m excited to work with my friends and colleagues to allow our athletes to be the best they can be,” says Dr. Chen.
USA Nordic continues to grow as an organization now boasting a team of 38 athletes- the largest team ever. Elsie Jelsing, MD, will continue to be Head Team Physician for Women’s Ski Jumping. Two new Head Physicians have been recruited as well. James Glazer, MD, will join the Nordic Combined Team while Lauren Borowski, MD, will join the Men’s Ski Jumping Team.
“We have outgrown the time when one doctor could take care of all the athlete issues that arise in the course of a season. I am very excited that we have a new, outstanding medical team who are all well trained experts in their fields and all of whom have professional and elite team experience,” says Dr. Chen.
