Doppelmayr India Signs Memurandum Of Understanding
Mr. R. K. Gupta, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, WAPCOS and Mr Vikram Singhal, Managing Director & CEO, Doppelmayr India signed MoU for ‘Development of Ropeway Systems’ for decongesting urban areas and providing connectivity to remote sections of the city either as a stand-alone facility or by providing ‘last mile connectivity’ to the main transit system like metros. The Ropeway Solution will also focus on the development of tourism destinations in the country.
WAPCOS is a Mini-Ratna-I Public Sector Enterprise under the administrative control of Union Ministry of Water Resource, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, Government of India and has multi-disciplinary capabilities in project consultancy, EPC and providing integrated and customized solutions for sustainable development of infrastructure projects.
Doppelmayr India is a wholly owned subsidiary of Doppelmayr GmbH, the 125 year old world’s largest ropeway manufacturer that has more than 60% share of the global ropeway market. Doppelmayr is responsible for setting up of more than 14,900 ropeway installations across the world in 95 countries. It manufactures Aerial Ropeway Systems, Automated People Movers, Funiculars and unique material handling systems.
United Nations-HABITAT has recognized ‘Urban Congestion’ as a global issue and has identified ropeways as an important mode of transport to reduce urban congestion. Globally, the UN Habitat has tied up with Doppelmayr to address the issue.
This MoU will enable WAPCOS and Doppelmayr to develop ropeway projects in various states of India. The Ropeways projects will be developed based on the top globally accepted standard for passenger safety and reliability. These projects will not only reduce traffic congestion and pollution but also contribute towards development of tourism destinations and provide employment opportunities in India.
