Doppelmayr Group Reports Stable Growth
The international Doppelmayr Group headquartered in Wolfurt (AUT) posted growth of 11.81% in the 2023/24 business year, taking sales revenues to 1,057 million euros. This was largely attributable to numerous customer contracts for large projects in Europe, North America and Asia – primarily in the ropeway sector.
The Doppelmayr Group’s customers, above all in the ropeway sector, continue to invest heavily in expanding their offers and infrastructures. The order position in the intralogistics segment is also very gratifying. Annual sales revenues rose to 1,057 million euros thanks to year-on-year growth of 11.81%. “The past few years have confronted our customers and our employees with a wide range of challenges. We are very proud of our combined achievement in successfully aligning the company with current market requirements and circumstances,” says Michael Köb. Thomas Pichler adds: “We have maintained a strong focus on our core competencies. The latest product developments are now coming onto the market and give us confidence regarding new projects.
Mountains in the winter
The winter business has shown a marked increase for the Doppelmayr Group. The main contributing factor here continues to be the very strong North American market, with the USA once again taking the lead as the biggest single market. The two-section Wild Blue Gondola in Steamboat Springs/Colorado and the 75-passenger Lone Peak Tram in Big Sky/Montana are examples of the diversity of US contracts. Doppelmayr teams have also implemented impressive large projects in collaboration with customers in Austria, including the Komperdell AURO gondola in Serfaus/Tyrol, which features autonomous operation. Several prestige projects are currently under construction, among them the Schilthornbahn 20XX and the first TRI-Line installation in Hoch Ybrig, both of which are in Switzerland. “What our teams achieve on a daily basis is remarkable. With top precision and huge dedication, they create technical innovations and world firsts that are destined to provide a very special experience for large numbers of people,” says Arno Inauen.
Experience in year-round tourism
In Asia, the ropeway continues to represent a popular solution for providing guests with comfortable mobility at tourist destinations. The ropeways in Bana Hills in Vietnam and the Tianmeng Funicular in China are a big hit with visitors.
Urban mobility
Although no urban ropeways were completed in the 2023/24 business year, Doppelmayr teams are currently working hard on a wide range of urban projects worldwide. The Câble C1 system in the Paris metropolitan area will be a flagship project for Europe. In Mexico City, the Cablebús Línea 3 is due for completion this year. South America continues to lead the field for ropeway-based urban mobility.
Reliable operation
The Doppelmayr Group provides customers with a comprehensive no-hassle package. That means: The company has experts on hand throughout all project phases – from the initial idea all the way through planning, engineering, production, installation, start-up and customer service. Ropeway operation and maintenance also belong to the company’s areas of expertise. In the 2023/24 business year, the Doppelmayr Group secured major O&M (Operations & Maintenance) contracts, including the new Sterling Vineyards gondola in Napa Valley, California (USA), as well as extension of the contract with IFS Cloud Cable Car in London (GBR). At the same time, the company also succeeded in winning the biggest contract in its history: Newark Airport in New Jersey (USA), where a new Cable Liner® is to be built.
Carrying material from A to B
In addition to passenger transport, the Doppelmayr Group’s comprehensive product portfolio also covers solutions for transporting material. Its core product is RopeCon®, a combination of proven ropeway engineering and continuous conveyor technology. The RopeCon® system transports bulk materials and unit loads of all kinds, effortlessly crosses obstacles, and minimizes the required structural footprint on the ground. In the 2023/24 business year, the focus was on a series of engineering contracts as well as on product development for new fields of application. The latest contract involves supporting the construction project for the Tunnel Euralpin Lyon-Turin (TELT) between Italy and France.
Efficient storage
LTW Intralogistics GmbH are not only the experts for intralogistics and material flows within the Doppelmayr Group but have also acquired wide-ranging competencies in the digital and software field. The digital twin for high-bay warehouses, real-time simulations and LIOS (LTW Intralogistics Operations System) are some of the latest product developments in this area. The order position for intralogistics systems is very gratifying. LTW teams are currently working on two other boat storage facilities and major projects for the wood products industry.
A strong team
Alongside growth in sales revenues, the Doppelmayr Group also reports expansion in headcount in the 2023/24 business year. Customers and projects are looked after by 3,517 employees (FTEs) worldwide. Roughly half of them (1,697 FTEs) work in Austria. “Employees are at the core of our company success,” says Gerhard Gassner. “The labor market is fiercely competitive, which makes us all the more proud of our workforce and of the fact that they chose the Doppelmayr Group as employer.” The company also scored great successes in apprentice recruitment: “48 young talents started their apprenticeships at Doppelmayr in Wolfurt in September 2024 – more than ever before. As an employer and training provider, that gives us huge pride.”
New production hall in Wolfurt
Gerhard Gassner explains further: “The expansion of our sites is essential to ensure that we continue to complete our ropeways on time and to the highest quality standards. As part of the planned plant expansion at our headquarter in Wolfurt, we shall be creating room for 850 workplaces.” Doppelmayr Group sites in the USA, Canada and China have also been earmarked for expansion.
