Digitaloft.co.uk, PR Company For Parksleepfly Issues Hilariously Bad Research On The Best Ski Resorts Across The United States

UK PR Company digitaloft.co.uk has issued a press release on behalf of ParkSleepFly. It's not very good...it's to be hoped their services are cheap.

The study by ParkSleepFly analysed ski resorts in the US on various factors such as number of ski lifts, slope lengths, average annual pass prices, and average snowfall to reveal the best ski resorts in the United States. It uses the usual formula for this sort of thing involving picking names out of a hat, measuring internet traffic and that super reliable metric of a ski area's quality, instagram posts.

You can view the full research here: https://parksleepfly.com/blog/the-us-ski-index/

It might be reliable, who knows, but the following statments would make all but the most credulous reader think twice before relying on anything it has to say.

  • 'The ski resort with the longest slopes in the US is Solitude, Utah, with over 550km of slope length.' Now ski resort size is always hard to measure but that 550km figure would make Solitude the second largest ski area in the world. Note to ParkSleepFly and digitaloft.co.uk,  it isn't. The stated source, https://www.skiresort.info/ski-resort/solitude/ says 64km which is a lot more plausible, especially as Big Sky and Park City who both think they're the biggest in the USA claim a mere 250km according to the same source.

  • 'Smuggler’s Notch, Utah is the resort with the cheapest season passes from only $149 for the season.' Now the pass price might be correct, but eagle eyed readers will have noticed the big news, that a small resort in Vermont has been magically transported to the other side of the country. That's a story !

  • 'Jackson Hole, Wyoming sees the most rainfall each season with an average of 437 inches of rainfall per season.' Jackson might get that much rainfall, though it would be a surprise as it would be twice as rainy as anywhere else in the 'lower 48', oh and ski areas tend not to go big on how rainy they are....

Hmmmm, after some prompting they've moved Smugs back to its home on the east coast and it's no longer necessary to use a snorkel when skiing Jackson, except perhaps on the powder days.

However, the good folks at Solitude are still up there with the 3 Valleys for the total length of runs. We at SIN love Solitude but if anyone is expecting to find 550km of pistes they're going to be disappointed.
