Demaclenko Installs Ghost In Zermatt

For many years, DEMACLENKO has maintained a successful and strong partnership with Zermatt Bergbahnen. To be even better prepared for the current winter season, the snowmaking infrastructure in the world-famous Swiss winter sports paradise was further expanded last year. Once again, DEMACLENKO’s cutting-edge technology took center stage, featuring the installation of a GHOST.
With its breathtaking Matterhorn panorama and approximately 360 kilometers of slopes, Zermatt's ski area is one of the most renowned and exclusive winter sports destinations in the world. Ensuring top-quality slopes and snow reliability requires a high-performance and dependable snowmaking system. Zermatt’s snowmaking infrastructure is divided into two main zones: The NORTH area is managed by Daniel Imboden, while in the SOUTH area, Raoul Biner and his team keep the slopes in peak condition. DEMACLENKO’s fan guns and lances have been in operation in Zermatt for many years, and the resort continuously invests in cutting-edge technology to further enhance the efficiency of its snowmaking network.
That’s why, in the 2023/2024 season, further optimizations to the snowmaking infrastructure were implemented in both zones. The absolute highlight: in the NORTH area, a GHOST was installed at “Blauherd”. This DEMACLENKO innovation, introduced to the market in 2023, stands out with a groundbreaking concept: the snow gun is mounted on a hydraulic lift and can be fully lowered into a pit via a hatch. When not in use or during the summer, the snow gun can be parked directly in the pit. This design also allows it to blend seamlessly into the surroundings, as no components remain visible on the surface. The structure is built to withstand the weight of grooming machines, meaning the GHOST can even be placed in the middle of the slopes.
This was the case in Zermatt, where the GHOST was installed in the lower section of the “Rotweng” slope. In the SOUTH area, 18 EOS 4.0 lances have been installed, known for their exceptional energy efficiency. Additionally, the “Schwarzsee” zone was upgraded with three new Titan 4.0 fan guns, mounted on 3-meter towers. These additions ensure maximum snow coverage on the slopes, thanks to the Titan 4.0’s outstanding snow output and throwing range.
