As soon as one winter season is over, the preparations for the coming winter season start: Numerous projects are already beginning, the end results of which you can see for yourself next winter. In addition to revision work on the railways and hotels, conversions for sustainable electricity production are also planned. Would you like to find out more about the new valley run on the Jakobshorn or the hydroelectric power station on the Rinerhorn? Then keep reading!

01: NEW JAKOBSHORN VALLEY SLOPE

FROM THE SUMMIT TO THE ARCH

From the Jakobshorn summit directly into the valley: the new valley run on the Jakobshorn makes it possible.

This summer, the new ski slope will be built on the Jakobshorn, which will lead from the Usser Isch valley station along the Carjöler ski lift directly to Bolgen. The new route relieves the Gämpen valley run. While Gämpen is accessible to all abilities, the new valley descent is particularly suitable for experienced skiers or snowboarders. With the new ski slope, the popular Jakobshorn mountain will have one more attraction and thrilling ski slope from the start of the season in winter 2023/24.

02: HYDROPOWER AT THE RINERHORN

ECOLOGICAL ELECTRICITY PRODUCTION WITH HYDROPOWER

The turbine starts turning: With the construction of the hydroelectric power station at the Rinerhorn valley station, electricity will be generated from hydropower from winter 2023/24.

The new power plant on the Rinerhorn turbines water that comes from precipitation, meltwater and the overflow of the two streams, the Rieberbach and the Leidbach, and is collected in the Nülli reservoir. The kinetic energy of the water is converted into electrical energy in the power plant. Most of the self-produced electricity is used for self-consumption on the Rinerhorn. In combination with a water adventure trail, the hydroelectric power station is to be visited live from summer 2024 and more can be learned about the topic.

03: RECONSTRUCTION OF JOSEPH'S HOUSE

JOSEPH'S HOUSE BECOMES A BOUTIQUE HOTEL

Work has begun on the historic Art Nouveau hotel Joseph's House. The accommodation will be converted into a stylish boutique hotel in two years.
The special character of the house with its charming Art Nouveau façade will be retained during the work. The 73 rooms, furnished in the style of a boutique hotel, shine in new splendor. The offer is supplemented with a spacious wellness and fitness area as well as two seminar rooms. A special feature will be the event location in the former chapel. Together with the Hotel National and its facilities, a resort is being created that will present itself as an ideal location for company meetings and events from the start of the 2024/25 winter season.

04: SOLAR ENERGY ON THE MOUNTAIN

SOLAR SYSTEMS ARE EXPANDED

As part of the photovoltaics master plan, additional solar systems will be installed on the Davos Klosters Mountains in the summer months.
Selected locations on existing buildings on the mountain or in the valley are used to convert solar energy into electricity. This includes valley stations, mountain stations and garages for lifts. In winter in particular, photovoltaic systems in mountainous regions produce more electricity than at lower altitudes due to reflection in the snow. The Davos Klosters Mountains are supporting the expansion of electricity production from solar power with ten million Swiss francs. The projects will be completed within five years. In the 2023 summer season, many new solar systems will be added, such as at the valley station of the 2nd section of the Jakobshornbahn or at the Weissfluhjoch on Parsenn.
