Dachstein Uses Salzkammergut Cable Cars As A Visitor Magnet

The first weeks of the 2024 summer holidays are already over. The Dachstein West region - Naturally in the Salzkammergut, with its communities in Upper Austria and Salzburg, impresses with maximum holiday variety, impressive nature and warm hospitality. An initial conclusion: extremely positive. Those responsible are also looking to the future with confidence and promise for the upcoming autumn.

Holidays in Austria are booming. The Dachstein West region combines the perfect holiday experience for guests from near and far. It offers impressive natural and mountain experiences, culinary delights, events and, not to forget, sights, a wide variety of sports and glittering bathing lakes. "The many visitors to our cable cars - from big to small, from young to slightly older - show that we are one of the top destinations for summer tourism in Austria. The variety that we offer is unique. The investments we have made, the awards for the best summer cable cars, but also our efforts in terms of gastronomy and sustainable mobility pay precisely to the wishes and needs of the guests, and the many overnight stays over several days as well as excursion guests confirm our path," says Rupert Schiefer, board member and managing director of the Dachstein Salzkammergut cable cars, pleased with the summer weeks so far.

The summer offer is becoming increasingly important for the region and is in no way inferior to the winter. The two best certified summer mountain railways in Austria, the Grünberg and the Krippenstein, offer a comprehensive and natural experience. A highlight for holiday guests is the all-in-one ticket for the Krippenstein. This includes the ascent and descent, entry to the Mammoth and Giant Ice Caves, and to the 5fingers.

The Dachstein West region is specialized in families with children, for whom Bruno's mountain world is an experience.

Tourists can't get enough of Dachstein West-Naturally in the Salzkammergut

The previous season - in the lovely month of May - already saw a strong increase in overnight stays in the Dachstein Salzkammergut holiday region. Around 13 percent more overnight stays than in the same period last year, or 11,100 overnight stays, were recorded. This made us very optimistic about the summer holidays. "The forecasts for the main summer months were very positive and we have not been disappointed so far. The "Cultural Capital 2024" and the search for a wonderful natural landscape and exercise in nature with biking and hiking are probably helping a certain amount, and thanks to numerous events and performances and events by and with top stars, even more visitors have come to us so far," explains Mag. (FH) Christian Schirlbauer, Managing Director of the Dachstein Salzkammergut holiday region.

Cheers to summer

At the beginning of the summer holidays, guests in the Salzburg communities of Abtenau, Annaberg-Lungötz, Russbach and St. Martin were still rather hesitant about booking. But then many spontaneous trips were booked. "It is very exciting for us to see that guests collect information directly at home and plan a vacation with variety and everything that goes with it, which can be 'worked through' quickly," reports Alexandra Winter from Tennengau Guest Service. In terms of accommodation, vacation apartments and houses are in high demand, but top 4 and 5 star hotels are also being booked. Very good overnight stay figures can also be deduced for the second half of the holidays and the outlook for autumn also shows a good booking situation, although still with capacity. The HeuART festival on September 1, 2024 in Abtenau, a highlight of the Salzburg Harvest Festival, which features the world's largest hay figure parade, a traditional craft and gourmet market and musical performances, will bring additional guests to the region.
