Dachstein- Preparations Start For Austria's Highest Construction Site

Ramsau am Dachstein/Schladming. From September 6, 2023, the mountain station of the Dachstein Gletscherbahn will undergo extensive renovations. Under the motto "Energy Crystal", this will shine in new splendor from spring 2024 on the inside and outside and, thanks to generous photovoltaic elements, will be up to 80% energy self-sufficient. The first preparatory work started with the assembly of a Liebherr tower crane. On July 27th and 29th, the individual crane modules were flown to the mountain station of the Dachstein Gletscherbahn by a team from Heli Austria with a Super Puma AS332 helicopter. At the same time, the assembly work was carried out by the crane specialists, supported by Dachstein employees.

"Such a deployment in the high mountains is also unusual for us and represents a major challenge for everyone involved. Every step has to be precisely coordinated, this can only be achieved through perfect teamwork," explains project manager Reinfried Prugger.

When selecting the crane, care had to be taken to ensure that it could be dismantled into individual elements for helicopter transport and still meet the requirements of a construction site of this size. In a total of 35 rotations, tower sections, revolving platforms, slewing gear, cabins and control cabinets with a total weight of 44 tons were flown to the mountain station of the Dachstein Gletscherbahn and set up immediately. Thanks to the nearby storage location in the valley station area, flight times and refueling processes could be kept as short as possible. The conversion work at the Dachstein mountain station will start on September 6, 2023, until then the Dachstein will continue to be in full operation. Completion is scheduled for May 2024.
