Cross Country Skier Welcomes Bruggeman As Publisher
Height of Land Publications (HOL), home of Alpinist and Backcountry Magazine has hired Cynthia Bruggeman to lead its recently acquired Cross Country Skier Magazine (XCS).
An industry veteran from Colorado, Bruggeman is both an avid cross country skier and trail advocate. She led sales for numerous mountain/resort titles while working with the Vail Daily Magazine Group under Colorado Mountain News Media and was the former associate publisher of Trail Runner magazine based out of Carbondale, Colorado.
Cross Country Skier was purchased by HOL in the spring of 2016. “We knew, to make the magazine sustainable, we had to get it from two issues a year to four,” says HOL President and CEO Adam Howard. “We did three this year. While we’re proud of the product, we knew we needed someone with Cynthia’s experience in sales & marketing, event planning and media strategy in the fold. And here she is. We’re psyched!”
“Cross country skiers are educated, engaged, and deeply interested in nature and the Nordic sport culture,” Bruggeman says. “We love racing, but there’s more to Nordic skiing than competition. The market is ripe for more long form and reflective story telling. Cross Country Skier is a publication that feeds the soul and unites the Nordic community, celebrating both sport and lifestyle; I’m excited to be a part of this inspiring magazine.”
Cross Country Skier’s winter issue is on sale now. Visit crosscountryskier.com to order or locate a retailer near you. Complimentary copies will also be available at this year’s Winter Outdoor Retailer + Snow Show.
