Courchevel Gets Ready For Ski Jumping World Cup On 29th & 30th July
Change of date for this unmissable summer event in Courchevel which will now take place on the 29th and 30th July 2023.
First stage of the FIS Ski Jumping Grand Prix which will take place from July to October and this year once again, the world’s best male and female ski jumpers will be competing on the K120 Olympic ski jump in Le Praz.
The Courchevel stage this summer will be an exceptional one as there will be four competitions instead of the usual two: two women’s events and two men’s events.
This is more than just a competition, it is a real institution where the greatest champions have competed. We will see countless Olympic champions including Masahiko Harada from Japan, Simon Amman from Switzerland, Thomas Morgenstern from Austria and Kamil Stoch from Poland, the current holder of the ski jumping record, at 137 m… A record he holds with Michael Hayboeck and Daniel Tschofening who came to join him last summer at an epic competition where it was Austrian ski jumper Manuel Fettner who took first place.
As for the women, Japanese prodigy Sara Takanashi has already excelled four times, while the Beijing 2022 Olympic champion, Slovenia’s Ursa Bogataj, holds two consecutive victories in Courchevel for 2021 and 2022
The French national team is always eagerly awaited in Courchevel, and even more so this year thanks to the excellent results from the women last summer. Julia Clair and Joséphine Pagnier came third and fifth at the 2022 Grand Prix, meaning they have joined the very exclusive circle of ski jumpers who have excelled on their home terrain: For the women, Lucile Morat (5th in 2017) and Coline Mattel (5th in 2012). On the men’s side, three French competitors have come out on top: Didier Mollard with his victory in 1995 and the two locals, Steve Delaup who was declared the winner in 1992 and the new coach for the French men’s team, Nicolas Dessum who won twice in 1996 and 1998
The success of the Courchevel Grand Prix is also thanks to the fantastic atmosphere, with countless activities and events throughout the two-day competition, including a falconry show and activities for children: Jump Addict, and the possibility to go head-to-head on the Eclipse run, the slope used for the Courchevel-Méribel 2023 World Ski Championships, thanks to a virtual reality simulator. Alexis Pinturault, impressive world champion on the Eclipse run last February, will be present for the events on the Sunday.
The two days of competitions will end every evening with enjoyable concerts and DJ sets in the new K120 building, and there will be a fireworks display on the Sunday night.
