Courchevel: Art At The Summit, 15 Years Of Open Air Exhibitions!

Art at the Summit is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, by displaying the works of Jiménez Deredia. This season, the resort will be graced by the presence of eight monumental sculptures and some photographic reproductions of the works of this artist from Costa Rica, transforming Courchevel into a life-sized open-air art gallery. Over the years, Art at the Summit has become a key event, thanks to the mixed talents of Galeries Bartoux and the Courchevel council.

Like any great story, it all began with an encounter, between Les Galeries Bartoux and the council of Courchevel. Together, they took the ambitious step of creating an open-air art gallery in the spectacular natural setting offered by our resort. The purpose? To bring art to a wider audience, offering skiers and other visitors the unique experience of combining their favourite sports activity with a plunge into the world of art. Devoted to the greatest names in art, the resulting exhibitions have been a huge success. Salvador Dalí, Michel Bassompierre, Richard Orlinski, Lorenzo Quinn, Julien Marinetti… painters and sculptures famous for their monumental creations.

World-renowned Jiménez Deredia stands out from the crowd thanks to the beautifully rounded sculptures that result from his innovative combination of pre-Columbian heritage from the Boruca tribe and contemporary abstract art. Through his colossal statues of marble and bronze, the artist expresses a unique vision, a reincarnation of the legacy of Costa Rican culture into a fascinating artistic harmony. Sensually-curved statues that combine the concepts of eternity, fertility and the cosmos, hence evoking the timeless nature of the universe... 8 bewitching creations that invite visitors to reflect on their own spirituality as they explore Courchevel.
