Coordination Group Meetings Trondheim 2025 & Crans-Montana 2027 Held
Visits to the future hosting sites of World Championships continue. Last week, the Local Organising Committees (LOC) of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships Trondheim 2025 and the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships Crans-Montana 2027 welcomed representatives from FIS in Norway and Switzerland, respectively, for Coordination Group meetings.
For Trondheim 2025, it was the 6th meeting of its kind. In addition to presenting progress in organising these Nordic championships, inspections of both competition sites were on the agenda.
"313 days before the WSC 2025, both venues, Ski Jumping hills as well as Cross-Country stadium, were ready. The organiser will now use the experiences from the test events held last winter to finalize preparations and to give the final touches to the development in order to guarantee a successful FIS Nordic World Ski Championships." said Lasse Ottesen, FIS Nordic Combined Race Director
Announced in mid-March, the equal prize money distribution for men and women during the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2025 in Trondheim was among the important points raised by the LOC and praised by FIS.
"Nordic Combined is especially looking forward to a gender equal WSC program and, for the first time, also equal prize money for women and men, which is made possible by the LOC" Ottesen added
"The girls put in as much effort and perform at the same high level as the guys, so it’s only natural that they also earn as much." Åge Skinstad, CEO of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships Trondheim 2025
The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Trondheim will take place from February 26 to March 9, 2025. Note that it also includes a Paralympic cross-country skiing sprint competition.
"The FIS Nordic WSC vibe could definitely be felt in Trondheim during the FIS Coordination Group meeting. The Organising Committee is very well on track. There are indeed a lot of details to work on before the WSC, however, I am confident that Trondheim will deliver outstanding Cross-Country Skiing competitions with electrifying atmosphere" said Michal Lamplot, FIS Cross-Country Race Director
The final inspection will take place in October.
On the Crans-Montana side, the meeting of all stakeholders involved in the organisation of the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2027 took place at Hotel La Prairie on April 16th. Didier Défago, CEO of the LOC, and his team were able to report progress in the overall organisation of the World Championships and discuss venues, guest and staff management, marketing, and communication with the representatives of FIS present, including Michel Vion, FIS Secretary General, Sandra Spitz, FIS Sport and Event Director, several members of the FIS alpine skiing team, including Markus Waldner and Peter Gerdol, FIS Chief Race Directors Alpine World Cup Men and Women, and several members of the FIS Media & Marketing team. The next steps in organising this major event are already underway.
