Coordination Group Meetings For Zhangjiakou 2021 And Bakuriani 2023 World Champs Held

It was another busy week of FIS World Championship planning and progress reports as two of the FIS Freestyle, Snowboard and Free Ski World Championship 2021 and 2023 host venues hosted online Coordination Group meetings.

Last week Zhangjiakou 2021 (CHN) had an intensive two days of online meetings that touched every major area of operation for the upcoming World Championships. With the most medal events and multiple courses and venues to consider, the update was full of sport and operational information for the events that include halfpipe, slopestyle, cross, moguls, aerials and parallel.

China is slowly returning to normal life after being the first country affected by the Corona virus, which will allow the Organisers to make major progress in the upcoming weeks. Fortunately, virtually all construction was completed before the virus struck, meaning all plans and operations are fully on schedule for a successful World Championship early next year.

“The spirit and dedication of Beijing 2022, the Organising Committee and Chinese Ski Association are truly the catalyst that has propelled the preparations for the upcoming World Championships,” said Joe Fitzgerald who will be supporting Beijing 2022 and the Zhangjiakou 2021 Organising Committee as Technical Expert.  “Despite the many hardships they have faced in the last three months, everything is running on schedule and we expect and exceptional World Championship this winter.”

This week, the Snowboard and Freestyle work continued as the Bakuriani 2023 World Championship organisers hosted their first major coordination group meeting with all involved stakeholders.

It will be the first time that Bakuriani and the country of Georgia will host a FIS World Championship and with the clock already ticking towards 2023, the Organisers and all stakeholders are working at a rapid pace to prepare for the Championships, in addition to gaining as much technical knowledge from previous Organsiers thanks to the Transfer of Knowledge programme, which will prove to be valuable for the first time host.

The focus of the call was primarily on the logistics and sport facilities required for the large-scale World Championships. The preliminary concept was presented and is ready to be optimised in the upcoming months as planning progresses.
