Christin Cooper (USA) was presented with the FIS Journalist Award last week at Sun Valley during the U.S. Alpine Championships.

She was honoured for over two decades as one of the sport’s most noted analysts. The long-time NBC commentator, who retired a year ago, turned a storied racing career into telling the stories of other racers.

Cooper was presented with the award by U.S. Ski and Snowboard CEO Tiger Shaw to recognise her lifetime achievement..

A former alpine racer on the FIS World Cup, Cooper won giant slalom silver at the 1984 Olympic Winter Games in Sarajevo and three medals (two silver, one bronze) at the 1982 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Schladming. She retired from international competition following the 1984 season, in which she was the runner-up in the season’s giant slalom standings, completing her racing career with five World Cup victories, 26 podiums and 65 top ten placements.

The FIS Journalist Award is presented annually to media professionals to acknowledge their contributions to skiing and snowboarding, with nominees being selected by the National Ski Associations.
