China's First "Carbon-Neutral" Youth Skiing Event Runs At Winter Olympics Venue

On 25 December, the first station of the Future Stars China Youth Skiing Open 22/23 came to a successful conclusion at Genting Ski Park. In the SB PGS Race which was held on 22nd Dec, U15 Females' champion Li Miaohan was the youngest participant with over 10 years of experience on snow, she expressed her confidence to join the national team in the future.


In the Alpine GS race on the 23rd, National Team Olympian and National Champion Xu Mingfu, and National Junior Champion Li Jinyang acted as trialists. U12 Males' Champion Yu Mengde, who is 10 years old, trains on snow for over 100 days a year on average. Wu Pinxun won the Silver Medal and Wang Ruiqi finished third. These three talents all have more than 7 years of experience on snow and made a deal to meet again at the next station of the event.

On the 25th, Zhang Yiwei, the former world champion, came to assist in the SB SS to guide the members of the club on the spot. Wang Qiuwei (nicknamed "Little Snail"), a member of the team, also lived up to expectations and finally won the Silver Medal in the U15 Male group. It is worth mentioning that "Little Snail" is the youngest athlete among the competitors, only 8 years old. He said that the snow season has just begun and is still in the process of adjustment. “Little Snail” plans to take the path of professional development in the future.

Although China Youth Skiing Open is a National Youth event in China, the FIS China Office still invited Jean Louis Galinier from France to be the TD of alpine skiing, and Iztok Kvas from Slovenia to be the TD of snowboarding, aiming to let the majority of young skiers and snowboarders in China experience the fun of competition under the standards of the FIS event organization on the Winter Olympic Course.

According to the FIS China Office, the China Youth Skiing Open is one of the key events of the 9th National Snow and Ice Festival, which not only makes full use of the Beijing Winter Olympics legacy but also shows the international community China's determination to continue to promote the development of our sports, especially the development of Junior Skiing and Snowboarding.

As the first "Carbon-Neutral" Youth Ski Event in China, the event introduces the "3R" concept of the FIS, namely Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, implement low-carbon emission reduction measures, establish full-time environmental protection guards, supervise all aspects of the event's implementation. In addition, a total of 2,022 spruces, Ulmus pumilas, and Prunus Virginiana will be planted in BoErtal Mongolia Autonomous canton, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, in order to ensure the ultimate realisation of the "Dual Carbon" goal vision.

The medals and bouquets used in the awards were designed with the concept of sustainable development to promote low-carbon emission reduction actions to the youth with practical low-carbon initiatives. Among them, the award bouquets were made of milk cotton thread and hand-woven by traditional Chinese craftsmanship, combining the sunflower, a symbol of sunshine and positivity for youth, and the city flower of each host city. The medals were made of recycled car rubber tires and recycled wood into environmentally friendly medals.

Future Stars China Youth Skiing Open 22/23 will be held in China over the next three months with five more stations and a Grand Final.
