Caviezel Wins Super G Globe As Weather Forces Rce Cancellation

Mauro Caviezel (SUI) is the winner of the 2019/20 Super G World Cup. The Swiss speed skier was able to celebrate the first title of his career without having to race on Sunday in Kvitfjell.

"It's a really special day for me after a very good and constant season. It's a dream come true!" said Caviezel after being presented with the globe.

The last Super G of the season was cancelled due to adverse weather conditions. After a night of light snowfall, in the morning fog and wind came in and temperatures rose. First the start had to be lowered to Russi jump to avoid the foggiest and windiest section, but as the fog incrased in the lower part and it started to rain intensely, the slope was compromised.

Due to the soft terrain and the constant rainfall which compromised athletes' visibility due to drops on their goggles, it was not possible to grant a safe race for the athletes. At 10.00 CET the official decision came from the jury and the LOC and the last speed race of the season was definitely cancelled.

After the Super G globe was awarded through an official ceremony, the tour now heads to Kranjska Gora (SLO) as the season ending gets more exctinig than ever. With two technical events left and still three globes to be assigned, the season finale will offer a great show!
