Carezza Celebrates 50 Years With Dolomiti Superski
The Dolomiti Superski ski carousel was founded exactly 50 years ago. Carezza Dolomites has been involved from the very beginning, as the founding act of the consortium confirms. This anniversary was celebrated on Sunday in Val di Fassa – including an award for Georg Eisath (President of Carezza Dolomites) for his outstanding commitment to the development of skiing, cable car systems and the enhancement of the region.
Dolomiti Superski is celebrating its 50th birthday in recent weeks. Each valley that is part of the ski carousel in the Dolomites is organizing its own celebration. On Sunday, Canazei was the setting for the celebrations for the Fassa Valley and Carezza. The Val di Fassa/Carezza consortium honored its visionary pioneers as part of the traditional Gran Fèsta da d'Istà. Georg Eisath, President of Carezza Dolomites, was also honored for his outstanding commitment to the development of skiing, cable car systems and the enhancement of the region in the presence of Andy Varallo, President of Dolomiti Superski, and Elisa Maccagni, President of the Val di Fassa/Carezza consortium.
Georg Eisath began his career as technical director of the lifts in Obereggen, where he developed the "Latemar" snow cannon. In 1986 he founded WITE, which later became Technoalpin, the world market leader in snowmaking systems, and was its president until 2007. After acquiring the lifts in Carezza in 2007, he modernized the ski area with new lifts and infrastructure. He has been president of Carezza Dolomites since 2008 and has made a significant contribution to the development of winter tourism in the region. His son Florian Eisath is managing director of Carezza Dolomites and attended the celebrations, as did other representatives of the various companies.
Carezza has been on board with Dolomiti Superski since the beginning
The founding document of Dolomiti Superski states that in 1974 Carezza, with the two lifts Latemar 1 and 2 owned by Luis Knoll, belonged to the Associazione impianti a fune Val di Fassa, which in turn, with its total of 18 member companies, was one of the founders of the Dolomiti Superski ski carousel.
Just one year later, other lifts were added on the South Tyrolean side: Laurin AG (Josef Wiedenhofer), Skilift Hotel Latemar GmbH/Karerpass Bar Christomannos (Ludwig Histler), Skilift Masarè (Josef Pichler), Skilift Rosengarten (Ferdinand Kaufmann), Skilift Moseralm (Karl Auer), the Golflifte (Robert Putzer & Co.), Skilift Hubertus (Siegmund Dejori) and Chairlift Paolina (Walther von Wahlter). The Paolina lift was the first lift to be put into operation in the Carezza Dolomites ski area. That was in the 1951/52 season, over 70 years ago.
