Canada’s Four Time Para-Olympic Medalist Mac Marcoux Starts The Season With A New Guide

Alpine Canada is proud to announce the nomination of Tristan Rodgers (Ottawa, ON), as the new guide for visually impaired para-alpine skier Mac Marcoux.

Rodgers, 19 years old and perfectly bilingual, has four years of experience with the Mont Tremblant Ski Club where he raced on the FIS circuit. Rodgers was introduced to the guiding opportunity by CPAST Head Coach Jean-Sebastien Labrie and former CPAST coach, now Head Coach of the Mont Tremblant Ski Club, Jocelyn Huot.  Rodgers, who in his second year of studies to become a mechanical engineer at the University of Ottawa, has put his education on hold in order to pursue the opportunity, but has assured everyone he will return to complete his education.  This helps Marcoux and the Para-Alpine Team fill the position left recently by Jack Leitch in order to pursue his business education at Royal Roads University.

“This is a whole new experience for me and I like the fact that it takes away a lot of pressure on my own personal performance, it’s now all about communicating and collaborating with Mac to make this work. This is a great experience, Mac and I get along very well and after this 2nd training camp in Chile we just completed, I have learned so much already,” said Rodgers.

Marcoux is excited by the opportunity, saying “Tristan and I have gotten along great thus far.  He’s a very solid skier, incredibly fit and strong, and we’re building a lot of confidence which is key heading into the season.”

The first World Cup race on the 2018-19 calendar for Marcoux and Rodgers, is in St-Moritz, SUI, December 12, 2018.
