Busy Summer For Sunkid
At's been a busy summer for Sunkid with lots of new projects:
A new Mountain Coaster in Canada
Installation of the new “Mountain Pipe Coaster” in Camp Fortune was celebrated on 10 June. The first test runs took place, too.
Travelling options may have been limited, but the Sunkid team nevertheless managed to complete the entire Mountain Coaster route and perform the first few test runs in only four weeks.
Everyone involved had great fun and is happy that guests of Camp Fortune will be able to enjoy a ride here soon as well.
The adventure starts out in the valley, from where a chairlift takes riders up to one of the skiing area’s highest points. The ride uphill affords a unique view of the Gatineau Hill. At the top, riders take one of the toboggans to speed down the approx. 670 m long monorail track. Proximity of the rails to the ground makes the speed, adjusted by the rider using a hand brake, feel much more intense. The beautiful ride downhill leads through the forest, across the Clifford and Marshall skiing slopes, and through tunnels built specifically for the Mountain Coaster.
Since Camp Fortune turns into a skiing area in winter, some sections of the route must be removed then. The simple assembly enables mountain railway employees to easily set the route back up again when the summer season starts.
This was one reason for the people in charge at Camp Fortune to choose Sunkid’s Mountain Coaster. “We picked this model because it fits just perfectly into a skiing area: sections can be removed in winter, we were able to adjust it to our terrain, and we could use our existing chairlift. This was a fitting supplement for our facility, and an urgently needed adventure ride for the Ottawa/Gatineau region,” the customer summarises.
With the Mountain Pipe Coaster, Camp Fortune is not only investing in development of its summer offering, but also in its positioning as a year-round destination. This step is very important since the COVID-19 pandemic has had severe effects on winter tourism and caused financial loss. Travelling options have also changed, and the wish for summer holidays without leaving the country has increased. The Mountain Pipe Coaster is going to attract many visitors.

Visitors of all age groups love the new wooden ball tracks at the Familienberg Söllereck
The Familienberg Oberstdorf offers a great free-time experience for the entire family. This July, the Söllereckbahn had another highlight added to it. Its XXL ball track “Söllis Kugelrennen” has received a surprising expansion by two newly designed sections to add to the parts that were installed back in 2017.
Once they have bought a ball, young and older guests can launch into their rolling fun. The new “Eagle7” section serves as the first of four segments. On a length of 33 metres, its track comprises two parallel routes, which makes it ideal for a little race within the family. Once the wooden balls have picked up some speed, they will roll through a telescope on either side, past cowbells, and through the “Wedding Flight” station. The exciting race continues along a curvy track and on the “Mountains” and “Eagle” stations. The first track ends with a section victory for the player whose ball hits the final tray first.
A short hike along the Schönblickweg path leads to the second section, called the “Forest Track”, where players of all age groups find a 50-metres-long course that comprises a funnel, spirals, a wavy track, and a pillar labyrinth. A ball slalom at the end of this section serves as a special highlight before the second new element of Söllis Kugelrennen follows as section 3: the “Wavy Track”. Ten metres long, this segment has the ball pass through a slalom and a wavy element before it eventually hits a ball collection area. The final “Finish Run” with its 57 metres is the great highlight at the end of the path.
The ball racetrack follows the hiking trail down into the valley, turning the hike into a playful experience for the entire family.
The wooden balls for Söllis Kugelrennen can be purchased for 3 euros a piece at the valley station of the Söllereckbahn or next to the mountain one, to be taken home as a souvenir after playing.

Boat conveyor belt in use at the Olympic Games
Since Japan did not have any artificial canoe slalom course before, the Kasai Canoe Slalom Centre was built for the Olympic Games. The Sunkid boat conveyor belt is a central element for the white-water course.
This special Moving Carpet takes the athletes and their boats back to the raised starting point. The boat conveyor belt, 48 metres long and 2 metres wide, was developed and produced by Austrian conveyor specialist Sunkid.
CEO Emanuel Wohlfarter is visibly proud of this Tyrolean contribution to the Olympic Summer Games: “Of course, we are very happy to have been able to contribute to what is probably the world’s most prestigious sports event.”
A large event like the Olympic Games ensures global attention. From 25 July 2021 onwards, 82 slalom athletes from 34 countries went chasing the medals.
Since safety and reliability of the facility took the highest priority, the customer found it easy to rely on Sunkid’s experience as a supplier of boat conveyor belts. Perfectly working technology and the outstanding event organisation combined to permit white-water competitions on the very highest level.
Czech Jiri Prskavec won the men’s canoe slalom competition at these Olympic Games, while Australian Jessica Fox took home gold among the women.
At far more than 3,700 facilities installed in about 72 countries around the world, our company is not only the global market leader, but also highly experienced in implementation of particularly challenging projects.
The modular conveyor belts with or without roofs can cover lengths of up to 400 metres and more, realising transport capacities of up to 6,000 persons per hour. They offer many customisation options to match virtually any customer request. These are just some of the properties of the Moving Carpet, which has long ceased to be limited to skiing areas and is proving its high flexibility in theme parks and water parks, on golf courts, at trade fairs and events, or as a supplement for other means of transport as well.
