BSS's Muir’s NZ Big AIr final Postponed
Fourteen-year-old freestyle skier Kirsty Muir will have to wait another day for her chance at glory at the Junior World Championships in New Zealand after high winds in Cardrona forced the postponement of today’s big air finals.
In yesterday’s qualifying for the male ski big air, Jasper Klein was the best-placed British skier finishing seventh in heat one for 13th overall, just one place out of the final. He was one of three British skiers to score top 20 results.
Day 3 Preview: Ski Cross & Snowboard Cross Qualifying
In addition to the rescheduled big air finals, tomorrow’s action will see the qualifying runs take place for ski and snowboard cross with 10 Brits entered across the disciplines.
The male ski cross tilt is headed by Ollie Davies who had a breakthrough season in 2017/18 and has showed no signs of slowing down. The 21-year-old who earned a top 20 result at World Juniors in 2017, made his World Cup debut and earned his first Europa Cup podium earlier this year now heads to Cardrona on the back of two Australia-New Zealand Cup victories in Falls Creek last week.
Jonathan Bingham, 18, and Seb Ison, 17, went one-two at The Brits in Laax in April and join Davies along with former alpine skier Mathieu Avent. The trio all achieved top 10 results in Australia last week and will be looking to power through Sunday’s seeding round and reach Monday’s knockout races.
Four more Brits will take on the female ski cross with another World Cup skier leading the charge.
Two-time British champion Emma Peters heads to New Zealand after pair of seconds last week in Australia behind an Olympic top 10 skier. The 20-year-old’s best result from her previous two World Juniors appearances was 16th last year in Italy and she will be looking to use the experience gained by her World Cup debut last season to propel her to a strong result.
Peters is joined in the event by Faith Davie (19), Zoe Winthrop (19) and Elliane Hall (17). Winthrop was consistently in the top 20 on the Europa Cup circuit last year and was 20th at last year’s World Juniors. Davie also earned a number of Europa Cup top 20s in 2017/18 and was fourth in two races last week in Australia, while Hall, who races predominantly in the US and Canada, scored a pair of Nor-Am Cup top 10s last year and also claimed a third-place finish in Falls Creek last Friday.
Two British riders will feature in the snowboard cross and they will both be in the male competition.
Huw Nightingale, 16, took out the national title at The Brits in April after making his Europa Cup debut two weeks earlier where he earned a top 20 finish in his first major senior race.
Douglas Green, 19, is a veteran of two previous World Juniors campaigns and was the top ranked British rider at Universiade in Kazakhstan last year. He heads to New Zealand after four Europa Cup appearances last season.
