Brixen City Council Approves New Cable Car St. Andra - Plose

Mayor Peter Brunner is pleased about the next important step in the development of the Plose skiing and hiking area. He is convinced that the new cable car will make the Plose more attractive and convenient for locals and guests.

The Plose gondola lift from 1986, which starts at 1067m above sea level above St. Andrä and takes visitors up to 2050m asl to Kreuztal, is being renewed. Two cable cars are planned, which will be connected via a middle station at the former valley station of the Trametsch lift. The system starts adjacent to the current valley station of the Plose gondola and leads to the middle station and from there to Kreuztal, where the new mountain station is also planned to be adjacent to the current building. The route runs largely parallel to the current line, and the number of supports remains almost unchanged at 22.

The division of the connection offers the great advantage, especially in winter, that new offers are created for skiers and tobogganists, because both the Trametsch valley run and the RudiRun toboggan run can only be used in the upper part thanks to the new run.

Cabins for 10 people each and an increase in the transport capacity from the current 1,800 to 2,400 people per hour are planned. The continuous traffic will also remain with the new train, whereby the total travel time will be 9 minutes; the journey in the upper section, on the other hand, takes only 3 minutes. The difference in altitude remains the same as before at 983 m, as does the length at around 2.6 km.

In future, the cabins will be parked in the middle station. In the space thus freed up in the valley and mountain station, new services and offers for the guest are to be created. At the same time, areas are provided for accommodating all equipment, such as snow groomers, snow cannons and slope material.
Particular attention is paid to ride comfort, which benefits all categories of guests, be it in winter or in summer. Of course, all entrances and exits are barrier-free to ensure easy entry and exit for guests with restricted mobility or families with prams.

Construction is scheduled to begin in late summer 2022. The new facility is scheduled to go into operation in time for the start of the 2023 winter season. The construction costs are estimated at around 26 million euros.

“This is the most important feeder connection to the Plose. Until the new gondola goes into operation, the current one will continue to do its job. This will start summer operations from May 21 to October 16. Restrictions in cable car operations are not to be expected due to the construction work," says Alessandro Marzola, Managing Director of Plose Ski AG.
