Breaking - Telegraph Events Pulls Plug On Ski Show And Magazine
It is being reported that Telegraph Events will close both their London Ski Show and will cease publication of at least the print version Telegraph Ski Magazine.
In a message to some exhibitors Jeff Blackmore, the senior sales executive at Telegraph Events said:
"The Telegraph has taken the decision to cancel the event following a review of its strategy"
"In addition the print magazine will also cease to be published due to our readers preferring to consume online content instead"
"Thank you for the support that you have provided the festival over the years"
The owners of the Telegraph placed the newspaper on the market late in 2019. It's fair to say that the Telegraph newspaper's demographic, and indeed that of many of their children is rather more more mature than a typical snowboarding festival crowd.
The London ski show was established in 1973 firstly at London’s Royal Horticultural Halls in Westminster. In the late seventies the event moved to Earl’s Court and then London’s Olympia. In 2015 the show was reinvented as a partly outdoor festival event in London's Battersea park. Poor weather and a change in the snowsports market have made many in the industry doubt the event's long term future. Visitors numbers had falled to fewer than 17000 visitors over the three day event.
Curently the festival's website https://skiandsnowboard.co.uk/ is still offering tickets for sale for the 2020 event which was scheduled to run from 29th October to 1st November.
The Telegraph Ski and Snowboard Magazine was initally launched as the Daily Mail Ski Magazine owned by DMG World Media. In 2009 it was sold to VOS media, a newly created company, run by former DMG employee Damian Norman. The magazine claimed a circulation 15k monthly circulation over 5 issues per season from Oct - Feb
In Febuary 2013 Telegraph Media Group announced the acquisition of a majority equity interest in VOS Media, with then MD Damian Norman retaining a minority equity stake. In 2015 VOS media was renamed as Telegraph Events.
