Bogus Basin To Replace Morning Star Chairlift With High Speed Quad
Bogus Basin announced today that the Morning Star Chairlift (Chair 2) at the nonprofit recreation area will be replaced with a new high speed detachable quad. This will be the first new chairlift for the area since 2011, bringing the total number of high speed detachable quads to four. Construction will begin this spring and is expected to be complete by early December, in time
for the 2019-20 winter season.
“We are really excited about an improvement that will have a tremendous impact on the flow of guests throughout the area in winter and summer,” said Kevin Settles, Bogus Basin’s Board Chair. “The community has been incredibly supportive of the changes that have happened at Bogus Basin over the past three years, all of which are part of a comprehensive master plan.”
The Morning Star Chairlift services mostly beginner terrain, and also provides access to the more advanced terrain located on the back side of the mountain. The new high speed detachable quad will double the carrying capacity, and reduce the ride time from eleven minutes to just over three minutes. The Riblet fixed grip chairlift being replaced was originally installed in 1965, and was rebuilt in 1999.
Additionally, Bogus Basin will completely regrade and widen the Pioneer Trail located off of the Morning Star Chairlift this summer. This will create a long novice trail ideal for instruction and progression from the Coach beginner area. “Providing an exceptional learn-to-ski experience is one of the most important things we can do for our guests, for the future of Bogus Basin, and for the entire ski and snowboard industry” said General Manager Brad Wilson. “As the Treasure Valley continues to grow, we are excited and ready to introduce new participants to winter recreation.”
Bogus Basin’s 2018-19 winter season opened on December 6th, 2018 and will continue through Sunday, April 14th, 2019. The area continues to enjoy excellent skiing and snowboarding conditions following significant snowfall throughout February.
