Blue Mountain: Ontario’s Largest Ski Resort Adds A New Trail
Blue Mountain Resort, Ontario’s largest mountain resort, will be increasing its trail count to 43 this season with the opening of a brand new ski trial. The Resort’s newest black diamond run will be accessible via the Century Express high-speed six-pack chairlift and will take the overall skiable acreage at Blue Mountain to 365 acres.
Blue Mountain’s President and Chief Operating Officer, Dan Skelton said, “We have always found a way to make Blue Mountain bigger and better season after season. Along with the introduction of Mountaintop skating and enhancements to our terrain park, the additional run gives skiers and riders even more space to get outside and enjoy our winter playground.”
Since retiring the Badlands Double chairlift and moving the terrain park to the southern end of the Resort, teams at Blue were able to cut the new run along the same part of the Mountain where the Great Slide Ride once provided guests with a thrill ride down Blue Mountain. Known best for the cement burns riders earned proudly after careening down, the summer attraction closed in 1999 but as a tongue-in-cheek homage to the previous attraction, Blue’s new ski trail has been named “Burner”.
“We like to tip our hats to our past while always looking ahead to new opportunities,” adds Skelton. “A few of our runs have a link to our history like Dr. Doug and Tranquility. Now we can add Burner to the list.” The Burner trail includes 14.4 skiable acres located between Calamity Lane and Willy’s featuring a treelined chute with vistas of Southern Georgian Bay and a three-way forked trail opening up to a wide lower trail leading back to the lift.
Eager skiers and riders can try out Blue’s newest run this season which the Resort is hoping will start sooner than later. Blue’s earliest opening day on-record is November 25 but as always, Mother Nature will have the final say when it comes to getting the ski hills open for the season.
