Big Sky Resort Summer Update
The summer season is about to kick off in Big Sky, with Mountain Village hotels, restaurants, and activities opening on Saturday, June 8.
As the mountain transitions from spring to summer, construction of Madison 8, soon to be the world’s longest 8-seat chairlift, is fully underway.
BIKE PARK AND SCENIC CHAIRLIFT RIDES
In an impressive turn of events this spring, Big Sky received a series of late-season snowstorms that increased the snowpack on Lone Mountain. Despite forecasted warm temperatures this weekend, Big Sky’s lift-serviced downhill mountain biking trails will have a delayed opening this season. While the additional snowpack is welcome news for local streams and rivers, the trails need some additional time to soak up the moisture.
“After an assessment by our bike trail crew, the team decided that the ground is too saturated to offer downhill biking this weekend. Out of respect to the trails, we will continue to monitor conditions, and hopefully, with the forecasted clear and warm weather, we can offer select bike trails by next weekend,” said Adam West, the resort’s director of mountain operations.
Swift Current 6, Ramcharger 8, and Explorer will open as scheduled on June 8 for scenic chairlift rides. Ramcharger 8 will run daily from June 8 through September 15, while Swift Current 6 and Explorer will run Thursday through Sunday until June 23, and then daily from June 27 through September 15.
BASECAMP ACTIVITIES
Summer activities, including the Nature and Adventure Ziplines, bungee trampoline, giant swing, and the climbing wall, will also open on June 8, and remain open from Thursday through Sunday through the month of June. Mini-golf and gemstone mining will be available daily starting June 8. Basecamp activities will be offered daily from July 1 through September 15.

MADISON 8 CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
This spring, while many Big Sky skiers were enjoying the last few weeks of ski season, the summer chairlift construction season was already underway on the Moonlight Basin side. On April 17, Madison 8 construction kicked off with the decommissioning of the existing Six Shooter lift. In the following weeks, all 85 chairs were removed from the lift line, followed by the cutting of the haul rope and the demolition of the top and bottom lift terminals. Finally, in mid-May, Six Shooter’s 29 towers were removed via helicopter, clearing the way for next steps on the new Madison 8 lift. Read more construction updates
