Big “Nordic Winter Opening” Starts Schladming XC Season
It's not just Alpine winter sports enthusiasts who are happy about the recent start of the new season. Things are now really getting started for fans of Nordic skiing. In the Styrian cross-country skiing mecca of Ramsau am Dachstein, the official starting signal will be given next weekend with the “Nordic Winter Opening” for hobby runners of all abilities and ages. The program for the three-day event from December 7th to 10th includes technology courses, material tests, an introduction to laser biathlon and much more.

While two concerts by Robbie Williams are taking place in Schladming, winter sports fans can experience a variety of cross-country skiing fun in Ramsau am Dachstein as part of the Nordic Winter Opening. Two-time Olympic champion gives valuable tips “No matter whether you are an enthusiastic cross-country skier or a complete beginner, with or without a course, everyone gets their money’s worth at this event,” emphasize the two organizers Willi and Walter Wieser from the Torlauf-Dachstein association. With the event ticket, every participant has free access to the cross-country skiing paradise, receives free advice on material and technology as well as tips from professionals or can prove their accuracy in laser b iathlon. “This year we are pleased to welcome two-time Olympic champion Claudia Nystad as a special guest of honor. She is looking forward to giving interested runners a few tips and tricks to improve their own technique as part of a course,” says Wieser. Mathias Schattleitner, Managing Director of the Schladming-Dachstein Tourism Association, is also looking forward to the opening: “This year we have both the ski opening with Robbie Williams in Schladming and the Nordic Winter Opening in Ramsau on the same weekend. We are pleased that we can offer two such large events at the start of the season for both alpine athletes and fans of Nordic sports and that we can delight our guests. With a total of 220 kilometers of trails in Ramsau am Dachstein, cross-country skiers will always find the perfect trail. 125 kilometers are dedicated to classic cross-country skiing and 95 kilometers to skating - freshly groomed every day. And new this year: A little southwest of the World Cup stadium, in the area of the reservoir, the “Kalis Cross Park” will soon be opening its doors for the first time . Cross-country skiers of all ages can explore a varied technical course here. It includes simple elements such as slalom, wave track or archway as well as steep curves or - probably the biggest challenge - a ski jump.
