The best Austrian summer mountain railways and KlimaTicket Ö are jointly launching the new mobility cooperation "One for mountain and valley". This partnership is all about sustainability and combines environmentally friendly mobility with unforgettable mountain experiences. The cooperation offers KlimaTicket holders a 10% discount at the cash desks of the participating mountain railways.
Climate-friendly to the summit
Worldwide tourism causes eight to ten percent of global greenhouse gas emissions. In relation to climate developments, the environmental impact of travel must be improved. Not only the choice of destination, but also the choice of means of transport for arrival and holiday behavior play an important role. The best Austrian summer mountain railways are aware of these developments and are actively implementing sustainable measures in the area of mobility. From joint regional guest cards including free use of public transport, to car sharing offers and electromobility to combination tickets, summer mountain railways have been standard for years. Now the next step is being taken with the Austria-wide cooperation with the KlimaTicket.
"The Austrian cable cars are committed to a sustainable course. Cable cars are 100% electric mobility using predominantly renewable energy. This puts the industry in a top position. And as far as the best Austrian summer mountain railways are concerned, sustainability is nothing new, but has been a practice and standard for more than twenty years. We therefore see it as our responsibility to create mountain experiences that are in harmony with the needs of nature, the environment and the region. With this cooperation, we are sending a strong signal for sustainable tourism and climate-friendly mobility," says Franz Hörl, chairman of the Cable Car Association in the Austrian Chamber of Commerce.
80% of the best Austrian summer mountain railways are easily accessible by public transport
"Sustainability criteria are also included in our certification process," adds Kornel Grundner, spokesman for the Best Austrian Summer Mountain Railways. "Sustainable offers have become an important criterion for many guests when choosing their vacation. This also applies to a climate-friendly journey. Therefore, with the KlimaTicket Ö as a strong partner, we want to actively convey this message and give it weight: "Unforgettable mountain experiences are closer than you might think. And they can also be reached by public transport and in a climate-friendly way," says Grundner.
The latest quick survey among the 79 member companies also shows that over 80% of the best Austrian summer mountain railways can easily be reached within 5 to 10 minutes on foot from a public transport station.
The cooperation “One for mountain and valley”
Upon presentation of a valid KlimaTicket Ö, its holders receive a 10% discount on the ascent and/or descent on all participating summer mountain railways, based on the current daily ticket price at the ticket office. The discount is not valid for online purchases and cannot be applied to tickets that are already discounted.

About the seal of approval “Best Austrian Summer Mountain Railways”
The seal of quality for the Best Austrian Summer Mountain Railways is an initiative of the Cable Cars Association (Austrian Chamber of Commerce) and stands for quality, cooperation and sustainable regional development. The seal of quality brings together the experts and pioneers of domestic summer mountain tourism and now has 79 members with 96 themed mountains. Only companies that meet at least 100 quality criteria become one of the "Best Austrian Summer Mountain Railways". Specialized in five themed worlds - adventure, family, panorama & nature experience, enjoyment, art & culture - the members must pass a recertification every three years. A varied range of experiences is guaranteed - not least because of this, the seal of quality has now become an important decision-making criterion when holidaymakers choose their destination.
About the ClimateTicket Ö
The KlimaTicket Ö is an initiative of the Austrian Climate Protection Ministry and allows you to use all scheduled services (public and private rail transport, city transport and transport associations) in a specific area for one year: regionally, nationally and Austria-wide. As an additional offer to the KlimaTicket Ö, there is also the option of purchasing regional KlimaTickets. The implementation and design of these is the responsibility of the respective federal state.
The KlimaTicket Ö is not only a ticket for all public transport, but also a contribution to achieving the Paris climate goals.
