Berghaus Continues Positive Business Journey With B Corp Certification
Berghaus is now B Corp certified and will use the status as a catalyst to strive for even higher social and environmental standards. As a B Corporation, the North East England based company has joined a globally recognised community that uses business as a force for good. Berghaus has now pledged to continue improving its approach to responsible business practices.
B Corp status has been awarded to Berghaus after a rigorous assessment that covered governance, workers, community, customers, and environment. The B Corp ratings provide trusted testament that Berghaus is tracking in the right direction. This extends a thread that goes back to the brand’s foundation in 1966 and over half a century of making long-lasting and repairable gear. Today, Berghaus still offers its free repairs service (Repairhaus), and its dedication to quality and durability remain as strong as ever.
Just as important to Berghaus is its support of initiatives that enhance access to the outdoors for underrepresented communities. The company backs organisations such as The Outward Bound Trust, It’s Great Out There Coalition, Millimetres 2 Mountains and Black Girls Hike. Berghaus is also a partner of organisations that conserve the outdoor environment, including The John Muir Trust and the European Outdoor Conservation Association.
Berghaus is the first brand in the Pentland Brands portfolio to achieve the sought-after status. This achievement aligns with Pentland Brands’ 100-1-0 strategy to take positive action for people and the planet, and sets the stage for more of the group’s owned brands to follow in Berghaus’ footsteps. Berghaus is also committed to ethical trading and through Pentland Brands, works with global organisations to protect and enable workers’ rights, and minimise the environmental impact of making its products. Berghaus will use its B Corp status and insights to contribute to and promote wider outdoor industry initiatives that address social and environmental challenges.
Charlie Pym, Berghaus brand director, comments: “We’re proud to be B Corp certified. Quite rightly, there’s a high bar for achieving it, and we’ve worked extremely hard to show that we’re worthy of the status. This process also highlights areas we need to improve, which is critical for our continued progress.
“B Corp certification is not the beginning of our journey, and it’s far from the end, but it’s another significant step forward in striving to make the world a better place with Berghaus in it. Our mission is to open up the outdoors because that’s where the best of life is lived. Everything we’re currently doing is in service of inspiring more people to spend more time in nature. “
Berghaus’ commitments and progress can be seen in its Positive Business Report, which catalogues its actions to becoming a more responsible business. The report also covers the company’s learnings and focus points for the year ahead, which will see the team increasing the focus on improving the brand’s B Corp scores, particularly within the community and environment categories.
