Bergbahnen Montafon Brandnertal Introduces Dynamic Pricing

The Bergbahn-Pool Montafon Brandnertal (Silvretta Montafon, Golm Silvretta Lünersee Tourismus, Gargellner Bergbahnen, Bergbahnen Brandnertal, Montafoner Kristbergbahn Silbertal) introduces a new price model for day and multi-day tickets on October 10th. With the so-called dynamic pricing, the needs of different guests should be addressed. In essence, this means that those who book early benefit from attractive prices. Compared to a static pricing model, dynamic pricing models address various factors. Demand and the time of booking play the most important role. The prices are recalculated daily using an algorithm. The idea of ​​dynamic pricing is not new in itself:

families benefit

This makes skiing cheaper on many days – for example when there is little occupancy during the week. In general, if you book earlier, you have a price advantage. Those for whom full flexibility is important can still buy their ski ticket spontaneously at the cash desk, but at higher prices. Families in particular will benefit from the new price model in the future. “Our experience shows that ski holidays, especially with the family, are planned in advance. Ski passes should then be booked together with the accommodation in the future. Families can clearly benefit from the best early bird price," says Markus Burtscher, Managing Director of Golm Lünersee Tourismus. Thomas Lerch, Managing Director of the Gargellner Bergbahnen, adds: “The previous price model was very rigid and not very demand-oriented. We fixed prices in April, which then had to last for a year without us being able to go into current factors. By controlling the price based on demand, we can now optimize utilization. This makes skiing in the off-season and during the week much more attractive and the overall mountain experience even better.” The redesigned web shop also makes online ticket purchases even easier and more customer-friendly. This reduces queuing times and relieves the cash desks on site.

Nothing will change for season tickets

It is planned that day and multi-day ski tickets for the coming 2022/23 winter season will be priced using dynamic pricing. The well-known discounts for seniors and children are still available. "Excluded from dynamic pricing are season and annual tickets, which have fixed prices as usual. Advance sales started at the beginning of October and will run until December 8th. For all Vorarlberg residents who want to ski regularly, the season ticket is clearly the cheapest option," confirms David Domig, Managing Director of Bergbahnen Brandnertal.

Intensive preparation

The decision in favor of dynamic pricing was preceded by a long process: “For the past five years we have worked very intensively on the system, held talks with several possible partners and observed the market. At the same time, of course, we also looked at other ski areas that had successfully introduced dynamic pricing. In the fall of last year, we then began to meet specifically with providers for workshops and negotiations and to work out the new system," says Peter Marko, Managing Director of Silvretta Montafon. In the end, Pricenow was chosen as the implementation partner. “We can use this to position ourselves as a modern mountain railway pool. With the flexible price adjustments, we will smooth out peaks in the winter season in the future and improve our service quality in the long term,”
