Beartooth Basin, US' Only Summer Ski Area Is For Sale

Beartooth Basin, the only strictly summer ski area in the nation, is for sale after two bad seasons, which saw the ski area opening for  two-and-a-half weeks in 2023 and not at all in 2024.

The area has been a premier destination for summer skiing and riding since 2002. The summit of the Beartooth Pass has a rich history of skiing dating back to the 1950’s. Beartooth Basin offers one of the most unique skiing experiences in the country.

Investment Details:

  • 20-year permit allowing year-round operations to 90 acres / 1000+ vertical feet. This is the exclusive ski area permit on the Beartooth Highway.
  • 2 high-speed Doppelmayr surface lifts, 3 Snowcats, portable diesel generator, 7 trailers, all tools and equipment needed to operate ski area.

Established in the mid-1960’s by Austrians Pepi Gramshammer, Eric Sailer and Anderl Molterer as an Alpine Ski Racing summer training ground. Beartooth Basin (formerly: The Red Lodge International Ski and Snowboard Camp) is one of North America’s oldest alpine ski training areas.

As the previous owners aged, they found themselves bowing out to a younger generation of skiing enthusiasts who looked to open the area to the public and not just the private groups and teams as had been tradition in the past.

The newer ownership group has changed a bit over the years and is now majority controlled by the team listed below. The ski area is staffed with professional ski patrol and and lift attendants just as any other ski area, but with a summer like setting above 10,000 feet that can sometimes turn to winter at a moments notice. Please note, there is no lodge or warming hut facilities. You could call it backcountry skiing with a lift.

A new shareholder group was established in 2002 and the now-52 year old corporation keeps Beartooth Basin's platter lifts turning with the help of its amazing staff.
