Bakuriani Getting Ready For The 2023 Freestyle, Snowboard, & Freeski World Champs
During the FIS Slopestyle World Cup competitions, FIS Secretary General Michel Vion took the opportunity to visit Bakuriani (GEO) to see the progress the host of the 2023 FIS Freestyle Ski, Snowboard and Freeski World Championships.
While in Georgia, Vion met with Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia among other delegates. The discussions focused on the upcoming World Championships.
Garibashvili was pleased to note that the development of ski and winter sports and training of Georgian athletes on a global scale continues to develop at a rapid pace.
In addition to the weekend’s slopestyle events, Bakuriani also hosted a parallel giant slalom event in preparation for the World Championships.
The Government of Georgia has made a huge effort to stage the World Championships at the highest level including installing a new snowmaking system, in addition to constructing new ski trails and lifts with modern standards.
With an aim of holding the championship at its highest level in 2023, it is planned to build artificial lakes, install an artificial snowmaking system, along with ski trails and auxiliary facilities.
The meeting, held at the Government Administration, was attended by Levan Davitashvili, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia; Thea Tsulukiani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth of Georgia; Mariam Kvrivishvili, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development; Irakli Chirakadze, Director of Mountain Resorts Development Company; Zurab Kostava, President of Georgian Ski Federation (GSF); Patrick Lang, Vice-President of GSF; Giorgi Ramishvili, Adviser to GSF; Sandra Spitz, FIS Events Management Department Head.
