“Backcountry is on a journey to create a more inclusive outdoor community, and we know that begins by looking within and looking for opportunities to improve,” said Melanie Cox, CEO of Backcountry. “The Women’s Outdoor Summit is a space for women of the outdoor industry, and the women of Backcountry, to hear from leaders, advocates and changemakers, connect and learn from one another, share stories and ideas, and ultimately help create a more inclusive outdoors. I can speak from experience, when our community comes together, we can effect powerful change, and I am looking forward to being part of this positive step forward.”

Several other prominent outdoor brands also signed on as supporting sponsors including Arc’teryx, Merrell, Outdoor Research, Patagonia and Smartwool.

This summit will be geared towards cis and trans women, as well as people who experience gender discrimination in their outdoor professional and personal lives. The event welcomes all people who are comfortable in a space that centers the experiences of women. ASL Interpretation will be provided.

The event is free and all proceeds from sponsorships will be donated to The Cairn Project, which expands outdoor access for girls and young women by supporting community-based wilderness and outdoor education groups around the country through a small grants program.

The event is organized by Teresa Baker, founder of In Solidarity Project which includes the Outdoor CEO Diversity Pledge, in partnership with JAM Collective and Ravel Media.

In 2017, the first Women's Outdoor Summit for Empowerment was held at the Presidio in San Francisco. More than 200 outdoor enthusiasts, CEOs, and female leaders who made their playgrounds, workplaces, and careers in the outdoors took part in the two-day event. The second event will be virtual using an interactive and accessible broadcasting platform.
