Award-Winning Scandanavian Luggage Brand Db Unveils The Duplex
Db, the award-winning Scandanavian luggage company, has unveiled The Duplex, a new line of rugged duffel bag that incorporates a series of innovations to make it the ideal duffel to serve the needs of backcountry and off-the-grid adventurers around the world.
The Duplex continues Db’s mission of coupling aggressive innovation with meticulous design to redefine travel gear. Founded in 2012 in Norway, Db has been praised the world over by design experts and athletes for its collection of luggage and roller snowboard and ski bags. The release of the Duplex marks the culmination of years of development and design to redefine the perfect duffel bag for adventure travel.
Db was founded in Norway in 2009 by freeski legend Jon Olsson and engineer Truls Brataas with the goal of redefining travel gear to enable better journeys. Db designs and markets backpacks, carry bags, luggage, and accessories for urban people who love outdoor lifestyles and travel. The company is a 4-time Gaselle award winner following its triple-digit growth and sustained profitability since the brand officially launched in 2012. Db is a multiple ISPO design award winner and Brataas is a recipient of the International Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the year award. Db is independently owned and operated from its headquarters located in Oslo, Norway where the company employs 25 people. Both the Bunker and Shelter models are PCT patent pending.
“Duffels are traditionally designed to sit open on the ground for loading all the stuff, then carried somehow – most commonly with thin backpack straps. The primary function of the adventure duffel is to be filled up with all the gear imaginable for your journey,” said Hunter Nordhauser, Senior Designer at Db. “When you think of how large and heavy they can be – especially since we all have the tendency to fill them up to capacity (always!) – how we tackled the problem is pretty novel, allowing for both great carry and ease of access.”
The Duplex comes in three sizes – 50, 70 and 90L – and offers an innovative hemispheric design that gives travelers easy access to their gear, and improved ability to organize. It also offers methodically organized compartments and useful external pockets so travelers spend less time trying to find buried gear, as well as reinforced, rugged shoulder straps that allow travelers to comfortably carry the Duplex like a technical pack.
The Duplex is made of heavy-duty fabric that helps it stand up to all the rigors of travel, and offers a carry handle on top of the bag and a soft rib cage system that allows the bag to
maintain its shape on the traveler’s back. It also boasts Db’s award-winning Hook-Up System to transport additional luggage.
“If you’ve ever traveled with a backpacking pack, you know that fishing for that pair of socks in the bottom of the pack is a 10-minute treasure hunt. We’ve taken the largest pain points of travel gear and found a solution that solves for all of this without sacrificing any of the durability,” said Ryan Lee, Design consultant of The Duplex. “We help you get your gear from point A to point B with a lot less toll on the user.”
To develop and test The Duplex, Db enlisted the help of skier / adventurers like Michelle Parker, Sam Favret, Nikolai Schirmer and more, who took the bag to Alaska and the Alps, as well as on boats and up mountains in Northern Norway. The end result is a bag that’s tough on the outside, organized on the inside, and ready to climb whatever mountain needs climbing.
“What sets The Duplex apart is the organization factor — gone are the days of digging deep in your bag for a pair of underwear and not being able to find it,” said professional skier Michelle Parker. “And the split feature makes it easy to dial in your gear and travel seamlessly between adventures.”
