Austria Overnight Stays: Best Result For May To July Since 1980
According to preliminary results from Statistics Austria, 39.94 million overnight stays were reported in Austrian accommodation establishments for the first half of the 2024 summer tourist season (May to July). This means that the number of overnight stays in this period is 0.8% higher than the previous year.
"Holidays in Austria were in greater demand than ever before in the first half of the current 2024 summer season. With 39.94 million overnight stays, the best result for the period May to July since 1980 was achieved. Around 70% of overnight stays were by guests from abroad," explains Tobias Thomas, Director General of Statistics at Statistics Austria.

In the 2024 summer season so far (May to July), 39.94 million overnight stays were recorded, which corresponds to an increase of 0.8% compared to the same period last year (39.50 million). Guests from abroad contributed to the positive interim result with 27.96 million overnight stays (+1.2%). Overnight stays by domestic guests (11.98 million) remained unchanged compared to the same period last year

In July 2024, a total of 18.67 million overnight stays were recorded in Austria, a decrease of 0.7% compared to July of the previous year. Overnight stays by guests from abroad fell by 0.7% to 13.81 million, while overnight stays by guests from Austria fell by 0.6% to 4.87 million
An analysis by country of origin shows that compared to the previous year, overnight stays by guests from Germany (-1.8%), the Czech Republic (-6.0%) and Belgium (-2.1%) declined. Increases were recorded in overnight stays by guests from the Netherlands (+0.2%) and Switzerland and Liechtenstein (+0.8%).
Second highest result in the calendar year so far
In the calendar year 2024 to date (January to July), 94.44 million overnight stays were registered, 1.17 million (+1.2%) more than in the same period last year. Since statistical records began, only 2019 reported more overnight stays (95.10 million) during this period. Arrivals totaled 27.38 million guests (+2.9%), of which 19.07 million arrivals were from abroad and 8.31 million were from within the country
