Eight of the best family-friendly activities in Aspen Snowmass
Home to one of the best Ski & Snowboard Schools in North America, endless group activities and interactive experiences, Aspen Snowmass should be top of the list for a family getaway to the mountains. Whether joining a snowshoeing tour on Aspen Mountain or heading to the tubing facility on Snowmass, please find below eight of the best family-friendly activities to enjoy in the world-class resort.
For the kids…
Child Group Lessons: The acclaimed Ski & Snowboard School at Aspen Snowmass is recognised as one of the best in North America and kids can make the most of the group lessons on offer, available for different age groups between 2.5-12 years. Group lessons for skiing and snowboarding are available at all four mountains depending on the level; beginner and young-child lessons are focused on Snowmass and Buttermilk.
Mountain Explorers Camp: Designed for well-rounded skiers and snowboarders who have a true love for the sport and the mountains, the Mountain Explorers five-day camp takes children across all four of the mountains while being introduced to every aspect of skiing or riding, including steeps and bumps, park and pipe, and racing. Whether kids want to spin a 360, hike Highland Bowl, go fast in a race course, or just have a really fun week exploring new terrain, the coaches have them covered.
Very Important Kids Snowmass: Taking place daily until 19 April, Very Important Kids (VIK) Snowmass is designed to create programming for children and provides many options for families after the ski-day ends. The activities take place between 3:30-4:30pm, including Snowmass S’mores, Cookie Decorating, Wildside with ACES and Family Fun at Après on the Bricks. Activities are all free.
Tubing: Offered at The Meadows at Elk Camp on Snowmass until 5 April, kids can enjoy endless fun at the mountain’s multi-lane tubing facility.

Ullr Nights: On Friday nights during the winter, Aspen Snowmass honours the Norse God of Snow — Ullr — with Ullr Nights, a night time winter wonderland party at Elk Camp on Snowmass. Visitors ride in the gondola up to Elk Camp for family-friendly outdoor winter activities such as tubing, the Breathtaker Alpine Coaster and snowbiking, with s'mores and hot chocolate provided by the bonfire. Snowbike Lessons: This blend of skiing and biking offers a unique and thrilling way to explore the mountain. Taking place on Snowmass throughout the winter, Snowbiking will create a memorable experience for every member of the family, regardless of age or skill level.
Breathtaker Alpine Coaster: Located on Snowmass, the Breathtaker Alpine Coaster takes riders through a mile of forest on an elevated track at speeds of up to 28mph.
ACES Snowshoe Tour: Those wishing to explore the mountains but not on two skis can join a two-hour guided snowshoeing tour with a knowledgeable Naturalist from Aspen Center for Environmental Studies (ACES). Available in both Aspen and Snowmass, visitors can weave in and out of spruce and fir forests, whilst taking in the majestic vista views and learning about the local wildlife, tracking, mountain ecology and winter habitats.
