Arosa Lenzerheide Celebrate Being Permanently United For 10 Years

Exactly ten years ago, the Arosa Lenzerheide ski area connection was opened. It is still considered one of the most innovative tourism projects of the last decade and inspires snow sports enthusiasts from home and abroad.

It was a memorable and historic moment in the history of the two mountain railway companies from Arosa and Lenzerheide. Heidi and Gigi, the two protagonists of the ski area connection at the time, fulfilled the dream of a shared future with a connecting mountain railway across the Urdental. January 18, 2024 marks the tenth anniversary of the opening of the ski area connection and Arosa and Lenzerheide will celebrate their tenth wedding anniversary, which is also known as the “rose wedding”. This special milestone symbolizes beauty and togetherness.

Lorenzo Schmid, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Arosa Bergbahnen AG and driver of the ski area connection from the mid-1990s, is very satisfied with the development: “For the two destinations Arosa and Lenzerheide, the merger was a milestone that allowed us to become a large ski area without them to give up different characters. I am pleased that we can also speak of a great success on the 10th anniversary.”

Felix Frei, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Lenzerheide Bergbahnen AG, is convinced that not only the two mountain railway companies benefit from this extraordinary ski area connection, but also all service providers: “We are constantly developing ourselves further in order to offer our guests added value and to position Arosa Lenzerheide even better. The connection has not only catapulted us as a ski area into a different league, but it also helps both sides to have a very stable and sustainable business model.” At the same time, the two mountain railway companies emphasize and practice close, collaborative cooperation with a uniform appearance as a large, shared snow sports area.

The system-independent and support-free aerial tramway from Hörnli to Urdenfürggli, built by Steurer Seilbahnen AG, is still impressive. With a maximum speed of twelve meters per second, it is still the fastest aerial tramway in Switzerland with the thickest supporting cable diameter of 76 millimeters. From a technical point of view, this is also a good sign for a long-term connection.
