Arnaud Bovolenta Retires From Ski Cross
The French ski cross athlete and OWG Sochi 2014 silver medalist Arnaud Bovolenta has retired as a professional athlete after 12 years on the ski cross circuit.
The 31-year-old has announced his retirement via Instagram on Sunday night after the 2019/20 season had come to an end, stating that he has had a wonderful career and no regrets in all this years as professional athletes with ups and downs, but great memories that will stay forever
Arnaud Bovolenta started his career off as an Alpine skier, where he mostly raced in FIS competitions. He had his first ever Ski Cross World Cup start in 2008 in Flaine (FRA). Between 2008-2010 he raced in the European Cup and in the season of 2009/10, he ended up in first rank of the European Cup standings.
Bovolenta earned his first top-10 spot in the World Cup in December 2010 in Innichen, finishing 7th. It was also in Innichen, where the Frenchman earned his first-ever World Cup podium spot, getting in third in December 2016.
In total his career consisted of 112 World Cup starts, five podiums and one victory in Sunny Valley in 2017 The French athlete participated in two World Championships, the first having been in Deer Valley 2011, where he finished in 12th rank and in Kreischberg 2015 , where he came in 10th.
The greatest success of the Frenchman, who originally comes from Albertville, must have been the silver medal of the OWG in Sochi 2014, where the French swept the podium with Jean-Frédéric Chapuis taking the win, Bovolenta winning silver and Jonathan Midol earning bronze. That was a memorable day for the French sport for sure.
Bovolenta participated as well in the OWG 2018 in PyeongChang, where he managed to advance into the small final and ended up taking the 6th rank of the day.
In his final season, he managed to hit the podium one more time in Sunny Valley, coming in third in February 2020 and he finished the season in the 21st rank of the ski cross ranking.
Arnaud Bovolenta is looking forward to spending some more time with his wife and his two little children, he stated in his Instagram post.
