The United States Ski Mountaineering Association (USSMA or USA Skimo) is pleased to announce the appointment of Anthony Armstrong as its new Executive Director. Armstrong will begin his new role on August 1, 2023.

The United States Ski Mountaineering Association (USSMA or USA Skimo) is the national governing body for ski mountaineering in the United States. USA Skimo’s mission is to promote and develop the sport of ski mountaineering in the United States. The organization provides a variety of programs and services to its members, including race sanctioning, athlete development, and educational opportunities.

“We are excited to welcome Anthony to the USA Skimo team,” said USA Skimo President Chris Howe. “He is a highly experienced and accomplished leader with a deep passion for ski mountaineering. We are confident that he will be a great asset to our organization and help us to achieve our goals.”

Armstrong comes to USA Skimo with over 20 years of experience in the outdoor industry. He has held leadership positions at a number of organizations, including the American Alpine Club, the National Outdoor Leadership School, and the Aspen Skiing Company.

In his previous role at the American Alpine Club, Armstrong was responsible for leading the organization’s advocacy efforts on behalf of the climbing and mountaineering community. He also played a key role in developing the club’s educational programs and expanding its reach to a wider audience.

“I am honored to be joining USA Skimo at such an exciting time for the sport,” said Armstrong. “I am looking forward to working with the board, staff, and athletes to grow the sport and make it more accessible to everyone.”

As Executive Director, Armstrong will be responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of USA Skimo and overseeing the organization’s strategic planning. He will also be responsible for representing the organization to the public and government agencies.

“I am committed to working with the USA Skimo community to build a stronger and more vibrant sport,” said Armstrong. “I believe that ski mountaineering has the potential to reach a wider audience and inspire people to get outdoors and experience the mountains. I am excited to help make that happen.”
