Antarctic Logistics & Expeditions Announces New Experience: The Antarctic Loppet
Antarctic Logistics & Expeditions (ALE) today announced a new experience, the Antarctic Loppet. ALE proposes to offer this unique cross-country ski experience during the upcoming 2024 Antarctic season, with tentative dates scheduled in January 2025.
“Cross-country skiing has a long and storied heritage in Antarctica,” said Nick Lewis, Partner at ALE. “Amundsen’s team was, of course, the first to reach the South Pole, and their skiing ability was a key element of their success. We think it is about time we created an experience to celebrate this and to educate our guests on this aspect of Antarctic history.”
This new five-day experience boasts three events of varying distances (10K, 20K and 50K), traveling through the extraordinary scenery of the Ellsworth Mountains. The event will be open to all cross-country skiers seeking to challenge themselves. Participants will also learn about Antarctica’s ‘Heroic Era’ and be a part of modern Antarctic sporting history.
Participants will fly from Punta Arenas, Chile to Antarctica on ALE’s chartered jet and be based at ALE’s Union Glacier Camp.
ALE’s exclusive travel itinerary offers guests the opportunity to learn from specially curated lectures, compete in the timed Antarctic cross-country skiing events, and take part in guided excursions to some stunning Union Glacier locations. Personal ski time and a celebratory event round out this experience which honors cross-country skiing as an important aspect of Antarctic history.
Details of the proposed experience will be announced when finalized. ALE invites interested participants and agents to contact info@antarctic-logistics.com to join a mailing list to receive information as it is released.
With more than 35 years of experience, ALE is the premier provider of land-based Antarctic experiences and logistical services. From its blue-ice runway and base camp at Union Glacier, guests can venture to the summit of Mount Vinson, fly to the South Pole, journey to an emperor penguin colony, or attempt an expedition in the spirit of early explorers. ALE also offers a full range of lectures and interpretive materials for guests. We are proud to provide logistical services to support National Antarctic Programs and deep-field scientific research.
