Annual Systems Test Completed At Sunday River
Sunday River Resort has completed its annual test of the snowmaking system, signaling that ski season will be here soon. The resort turned on four snowguns on the Lower Downdraft trail with temperatures in the 30s. With this test complete, Sunday River is ready to make snow as soon as there are sustained freezing temperatures overnight at the higher elevations of the mountain. The resort typically opens on or around Halloween each year, but has not set an opening date.
This summer, Sunday River invested significantly in its snowmaking infrastructure, replacing and installing 9.5 miles of new pipe, and adding two new fan guns and 131 tower guns to its arsenal. The resort is also in the process of implementing automation technology to aid its dedicated team of snowmakers in efficiency and increased snow output.
“We have always prided ourselves on having one of the most advanced snowmaking systems in North America,” says Steve Boulanger, Vice President of Mountain Operations for Sunday River. “Completing our snowmaking test after these major infrastructure upgrades ensures that we can deliver on incredible snow conditions from the first day of skiing to the last.”
In addition to snowmaking improvements, Sunday River recently announced a number of capital improvements, new guest experiences, and sustainability initiatives. The full release is available on SundayRiver.com.
