Alta Badia - Ski Season To End On A High Note: Gastronomy And Good Wines To Accompany The Last Days Of The Season
The days in March are longer and full of sun. This is the best period for unforgettable skiing days in Alta Badia. Over the course of the last years, Alta Badia has become the Holy Temple of fine cuisine and perfect slopes for unforgettable skiing in the heart of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The skiing season will close with four extraordinary events
SOMMELIERS ON THE SLOPES
The 2019-20 winter season includes for the fifth time the event which aims to highlight and teach us all about the best South Tyrolean wines. There are two more possibilities to attend the event, on March 3 and 10 and it includes beautiful skiing sessions on the slopes of Alta Badia, combined with tasting some of the most refined wines in South Tyrol. The event will be hosted by two mountain huts. Participants will be accompanied by a ski instructor as well as a professional sommelier. The price of the wine tasting session, including the ski guide, is € 30.00 per person and can be booked at the Tourist Offices of Alta Badia.
RODA DLES SAUS: MOUNTAIN HUTS, ANCIENT RECIPES AND GENUINE FOOD FROM MARCH 15 TO MARCH 22
The 7th edition of the Roda dles Saus, the ski safari devoted to the Ladin cuisine and culture, will be held in the ski carousel of La Crusc in Alta Badia. For a whole week, from Sunday 15 March until 22 March, skiers can taste the different Ladin dishes, paired with the best South Tyrolean wines, skiing from mountain hut to hut. Ladin cuisine, simple yet oh so genuine, is at the center of attention in the mountain huts peppered across the Skitour La Crusc skiing carousel. Every hut has specialized in cooking one Ladin dish, faithfully following Granny’s old handwriting in the recipe book.
Local specialties paired with a South Tyrolean wine shall be served at these mountain huts:
- Sunday, March 15 – Ütia L’Tamá mountain hut: Nettle pressed dumplings with herb potato salad.
- Tuesday, March 17 – Ütia La Crusc mountain hut: Beef cheek on Lagrein with speck potatoes.
- Thursday, March 19 – Ütia Lée mountain hut: Buckwheat-Gnocchi with venison ragu and celeriac.
- Saturday, March 21 – Ütia Nagler mountain hut: Typical fritters with jam and poppy.
Authentic scenery and genuine, typical dishes. Sun kissed slopes welcome tourists on this food safari, surrounded by breathtaking views, set amongst a sprawling valley covered with forests and Ladin mountain huts. Tourists should also take some time to visit Badia’s Parish Church, the birthplace of Saint Freinademetz and the traditional ‘viles’, the mountain farmsteads of Fussé, Coz and Pransarores, and finish at the suggestive small church of Santa Croce, resting at the feet of the Santa Croce mountain. A perfect family excursion: the Skitour La Crusc, easily reached on skis from Piz La Villa.
DE DL VIN – WINE SKISAFARI AT 2.000 M
Join us on Sunday, 22 March 2020, for an exclusive tasting session of the best South Tyrolean wines on top of the world. Enjoy local wines from a breathtaking 2000 m., from 10 a.m. until 3.30 p.m. at the Piz Arlara, Bioch, I Tablà and Pralongiá mountain huts. A fitting end for the close of the winter season dedicated to fine cuisine.
South Tyrolean wines stand out for their superb quality, obtained thanks to favorable climate, fertile soil and the care and dedication shown by winemakers. South Tyrolean wine plays a fundamental role in different food and wine initiatives in Alta Badia - and not only in restaurants and mountain huts.
With this 10th edition of the WINE SKISAFARI, Alta Badia wants to dedicate one full day to South Tyrolean wines, with an exclusive tasting session set atop 2000 m. A pleasant day on skis for wine connoisseurs, on a journey to discover the rich variety of South Tyrolean wines. Participants will also bask in the pleasant atmosphere listening to live music. The event is organized by Alta Badia Brand together with IDM and supported by the Consortium of Alto Adige Wine.
Tickets can be purchased for €30 at the four participating huts. The brochure detailing the offer is available at the Alta Badia Tourism offices. Ski carefully.
THE SKICAROUSEL VINTAGE PARTY: ON APRIL 12 AND 13 ALTA BADIA MARKS THE END OF THE WINTER SEASON IN A RETRO STYLE
Beautiful long days with sunshine galore and perfect snow - especially during the early hours of the day - offer skiing enthusiasts unforgettable days skiing on the slopes of Alta Badia until 13th April. Alta Badia has chosen to mark the end of the 2019/20 winter season by organizing again a big party, a new unique retro-style celebration. On Sunday 12th and Monday 13th April, Alta Badia will recreate, both in the valley and on the ski slopes, the atmosphere of a skiing district of times gone by.
On Sunday night, various themed events will take place in the bars and restaurants located on the main street of La Villa, closed to the car traffic. Each bar and participating restaurant will select a vintage period of their choice and convey the atmosphere which reflects that specific period both in the music and décor. The old-fashioned skiing vibe will also be available at 2000m in the refuges, which will offer local traditional cuisine on their menus.
On Monday, skiers can take part in a vintage skiing competition with bamboo poles on the La Para slope, where one of the last J-bar lifts is still operational. Everyone can take part in the competition, but only old skis are permitted, not carving skis. You sign up for the race on the day of the event.
All participants will be asked to wear retro skiing clothing and use retro skiing equipment for the entire weekend with the aim of creating a "vintage" environment in the entire skiing destination. The “Vintage After-Party” will begin at 4.30 pm in Corvara.
This event is a collaboration between the Alta Badia Brand and the Skicarosello Consortium.
