Alpine Premiere In Oslo - New Year’s Day Parallel Event
Oslo, the capital city of Norway, is well known for organising outstanding FIS Nordic World Cup events at its iconic Holmenkollen venue. But for the first time ever, the cross-country, ski jumping, and biathlon stadium overlooking the city and scenic Oslofjord will also host an Audi FIS Ski World Cup event.
On 1st January 2018, 32 of the best skiers in the world (16 ladies and 16 men) will compete in a city event dual slalom on a 180-meter long slope constructed opposite the ski jumping hill and finishing in the stadium. The scaffolding for the slope crosses above the roadway used daily by locals to access both Holmenkollen and nearby Tryvann Ski Resort, which will be used by the athletes for warm-up training.
FIS ladies’ Chief Race Director and Norwegian-born Atle Skaardal is looking forward to the event: “The snow is produced, the venue is ready, the team is experienced. I have no doubt that they will deliver a great show in front of an amazing crowd.”
Natural snowfall over the Christmas holiday has left Oslo white and ready for the debut of this exciting event.
