Alpine Canada’s Morgan Megarry Out For Season With Right Knee Injury
Morgan Megarry (Collingwood, Ont./Craigleith Ski Club) is out for the rest of the season after suffering a right knee multi-ligament injury while training in Alta Badia, Italy, on Friday, Dec. 14.
Megarry, 25, returned to Canada last weekend and was assessed by Alpine Canada medical staff. He underwent reconstructive surgery on Tuesday, Dec.18, in Banff, Alta., and is now focused on his recovery.
“The focus is now on getting this knee fixed up,” said Megarry, who has battled through injury over the last two seasons. “Thank you to everyone involved in getting me to this point. I was skiing the best (giant slalom) of my life. To me, that’s the greater victory.”
Morgan Megarry is a technical skier on the Canadian Alpine Ski Team and graduate of the University of Vermont. With successful top-ten finishes on the Nor-Am Cup circuit, Megarry will be a force on the World Cup circuit. At the 2014 National Championships, Megarry nabbed sixth and seventh-place finishes in giant slalom and super-G, respectively. In the 2015-16 season, Megarry had four podium finishes on the Nor-Am Cup circuit. Plagued by injury in the 2016-17 season, Megarry returned to the Nor-Am Cup circuit in 2017-18 where he picked up multiple top-ten results in multiple disciplines. Megarry closed out the 17-18 season with a second-place finish at the 2018 National Championships in giant slalom.
