Alpine Canada Closes 2018-19 Season With Ski Cross Nationals At Sunshine Village
Canada’s best ski cross racers will be in Banff and Sunshine Village to close the 2018-19 season April 13-14, 2019.
Fans can catch exciting ski cross action beginning on Saturday, April 13, as the final NorAm race series winds to a close at Sunshine with men’s and ladies’ races on tap.
Members of Canada’s Ski Cross Team will then travel to Banff on Saturday evening for a special end-of-season celebration dinner being hosted at Olympian Louis-Pierre Hélie’s Ticino Swiss-Italian Restaurant beginning at 5:30 p.m. With tickets starting at just $85, ski cross fans and team supporters will enjoy a four-course meal and have a chance to rub elbows with some of this year’s Canadian World Cup and World Championship medallists.
The celebrations continue on Sunday, April 14, with the final NorAm race of the season, and the crowning of the 2019 men’s and ladies’ ski cross champions.
“It’s always bittersweet to see the season come to a close, so we’re all very excited to be able to create some very special events to celebrate this year’s remarkable ski cross season with our national team athletes and younger racers who have been working hard all season competing on the NorAm circuit,” said Vania Grandi, president and CEO of Alpine Canada. “Saturday’s dinner at Ticino will be an opportunity to look back on the successes our athletes, coaches and support staff had this year before we turn our attention to preparation for the 2019-20 season.”
With the course built for the NorAm and Nationals races at Sunshine, athletes from the national and regional ski cross programs will take advantage of additional training opportunities at Sunshine in the coming weeks.
Canada’s Ski Cross Team amassed 14 World Cup medals this season (two gold, six silver, six bronze) and put three racers on the World Championships’ podium, with Marielle Thompson capturing gold, Brady Leman securing silver, and Kevin Drury racing to bronze.
From now until April 15, Alpine Canada and partners Audi Canada and Helly Hansen are accepting nominations and votes to determine the winners of the Audi 2019 Canadian Ski Racing Awards presented by Helly Hansen. Media, fans, and members of the Canadian ski community are invited to help celebrate the nation’s vibrant ski racing community by recognizing the athletes, coaches, volunteers, and ski resorts that have made a positive mark this season.
