AASI & Burton Launch Campaign To Grow Snowboarding

Did you know that snowboarding is a family sport? Thanks to advances in equipment, how lessons are taught, and terrain, children ages three and up are now snowboarding and sliding sideways with  their parents, and even their grandparents. 

“With advancements in snowboard equipment, how instructors teach lessons, and new resort features designed to encourage learning, anyone at any age can learn to snowboard,” said Nicholas Herrin, AASI CEO. The combination of these three things now make for the perfect learning environment for families who want to snowboard together. “The youngest snowboarders in your family can have fun in a Riglet Park, while adults can enjoy the ease and accessibility of a Learn to Ride lesson,” said Herrin.

To help spread the message that snowboarding is a family sport AASI and Burton are hosting a social media contest now through Friday,  Feb. 15, 2019.

“Burton and AASI teamed up to ask people to share their stories about snowboarding or learning to snowboard with us,” said Chloe Elliott, a business to consumer global resorts coordinator with Burton. “We want people to know that a lesson and the right equipment will help you and your family have fun so you’ll return to the sport.”

She said that, “Twenty-five percent of snowboarders are families,” making snowboarding an accessible, fun, easy, and family friendly sport. (Elliot talks about the #afamilyofsnowboarders contest on the First Chair podcast.) 

To enter, family members can post a picture or share a story that shows their family snowboarding or shares how a lesson(s) can help get everyone in their  family snowboarding together, using the hashtags #snowpros and #afamilyofsnowboarders. If posting to Facebook, be sure to tag @thesnowpros, @burtonriglet and @burtonlearntoride.

After someone posts, they will automatically be entered to win one of four Burton prizes: a Riglet board, a lesson with an AASI-certified instructor at a Burton Riglet Park, an adult Burton board, or an adult Learn to Ride lesson with an AASI-certified instructor. View the full contest rules right here on the Families Can Snowboard page.

“As a professional snowboard instructor, I wanted my daughters to love spending time outdoors and on the snow as much as I do,” said AASI Snowboard Team Coach Scott Anfang. “They started riding at two, and snowboarding has evolved into an activity we can share together for the rest of our lives.”
