Winter Sports Initiative ‘Your Winter. Your Sport’ A Success

Winter sports weeks with the whole class are among the highlights of every school year, and it's important to make this experience available to as many children and young people as possible. For this very reason, the winter sports initiative Your Winter. Your Sport – supported by the German Ski Association, the German Ski Instructors Association, Snowboard Germany, and the Ski Safety Foundation – launched the school class project Your Winter Week.

As part of a competition in which over 1,000 school classes from across Germany applied, the initiative is offering a total of nine school classes a free one-week class trip to the snow. All classes will travel comfortably and climate-friendly with Deutsche Bahn. The students will be equipped with rental equipment from INTERSPORT. Following the successful launch of the project for the first four winning classes in January (destinations: Stubai/Tyrol, Carezza/South Tyrol, Tölzer Land/Lenggries/Bavaria, and Feldberg/Baden-Württemberg), the next three school classes claimed their prizes in February.

The 10th grade of the Maschstraße secondary school in Braunschweig (Lower Saxony) kicked things off with their winter sports week in Obertauern in the Salzburg region. Thanks to perfect winter sports conditions and smooth on-site operations, the week was an unforgettable experience for the students, most of whom were skiing and snowboarding for the first time.

At the same time, the 8th grade of Wildeshausen High School in Lower Saxony spent their snow sports week in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. In addition to skiing, the program also included a visit to the Olympic ski jump. The class was also accompanied by Bavarian Television for a TV report, in which Your Winter. Your Sport. sponsor Miriam Neureuther once again emphasized the importance of providing children and young people with opportunities to participate in winter sports.

The 9th grade class from the Stadtteilschule Horn school in Hamburg rounded off the February trip with a trip to Oberstdorf in Bavaria. On the slopes of the Nebelhorn and Söllereck, the young winter sports enthusiasts, all of whom were skiing for the first time, learned to ski in a fun way. In addition to the fun on the slopes, other activities were also planned, such as the impressive Nebelhorn summit tour and a visit to the ski jump.

The last two school classes are already looking forward to spending their winter sports week in Tyrol (first holiday region in the Zillertal) and in Salzburger Land (Altenmarkt/Zauchensee) in March and early April.

The school trips are organized by Alpetour and Klühspies Reisen – the specialists for school ski trips.
