The 2025 Alpine Ski World Championships are not only a sign of the future in sporting terms, but also in ecological terms. As the "Official Supplier" of the FIS Alpine Ski World Championships Saalbach 2025, Leikermoser Energiehandel GmbH, a traditional family business and the largest liquid energy supplier in Salzburg, is playing a key role in the sustainable organization of the major event. By using the innovative biofuel HVO100 (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil), LM Energy is contributing to a truly green event.
"In addition to the successful conversion of the mountain railways and the municipal vehicle fleet in Saalbach-Hinterglemm to climate-neutral fuels, we are proud and honored to now be able to accompany a major international event such as the 2025 Ski World Championships with HVO100 as an "Official Supplier". The use of climate-neutral fuels plays a central role in our commitment to sustainable major events," explain Franz and Markus Leikermoser, Managing Directors of LM Energy. "It is a major highlight in our professional careers and an honor, as Salzburg entrepreneurs, to be part of this important project. With the Ski World Championships, we not only want to celebrate top sporting achievements, but also show that climate-neutral mobility and environmental awareness are possible at sporting events."
A BIG STEP TOWARDS CLIMATE NEUTRALITY
The use of HVO100 (hydrotreated vegetable oils) marks a significant step forward on the road to climate neutrality. This innovative fuel offers a variety of advantages: It reduces CO2 emissions by up to 90%, lowers particulate matter emissions by up to 33% and reduces carbon monoxide emissions by up to 24%. HVO100 is characterized by a particularly high ignitability (cetane number), which leads to improved responsiveness and noticeably quieter engine running. Another major advantage is the fuel's winter resistance down to -30 °C, which is particularly relevant for winter events such as the Ski World Championships. Another plus point of HVO100 is its compatibility with almost all diesel engines - which saves expensive conversions. This makes it possible to continue to use older vehicles in a climate-friendly way and thus contribute to reducing emissions without having to rely on new vehicles.
A GREEN EVENT WITH LONG-TERM SUSTAINABILITY GOALS
The Ski World Championships serve as a catalyst for long-term sustainable development in the region. The use of HVO100 is an integral part of the event's comprehensive sustainability concept. "LM Energy's support will make a significant contribution to making the Ski World Championships a truly green event," emphasizes Florian Phleps, Project Manager of the 2025 Ski World Championships. "The event will not only be characterized by the use of environmentally friendly technologies, but also by our continuous efforts to improve the region's infrastructure as a whole. This includes the expansion of charging stations for e-vehicles, the increased use of renewable energies and the development of sustainable mobility solutions." These initiatives set a new standard for future sporting events and contribute to achieving sustainability goals, while at the same time giving sustainable impetus to the region and the sports sector.
