Germany’s Your Winter. Your Sport: YourWinterWeek - Successful Start For The First Four School Classes

Winter sports weeks with the whole class are unforgettable experiences that enrich every school year. The school class project YourWinterWeek was launched by the winter sports initiative Your Winter. Your Sport. precisely for these special memories - supported by the German Ski Association, the German Ski Instructors Association, Snowboard Germany and the Foundation for Safety in Skiing.

In January, the time had finally come for the first four of nine winning classes. The 7th grade of the IGS Springe from Lower Saxony kicked things off with their winter sports week in the Stubai Valley in Tyrol. A week later, the 8th grade of the Staatliche Realschule Unterpfaffenhofen from Bavaria spent their winter sports week 70 kilometers away in Lenggries in the Tölzer Land, while the students of the Hohe Geest School from Schleswig-Holstein simultaneously embarked on a 1,160-kilometer journey to hit the slopes in the Eggental in South Tyrol. The 10th grade of the OBS Nienburg from Lower Saxony concluded January with their trip to the Feldberg in the Black Forest.

All school classes reached their destination comfortably and in a climate-friendly way with Deutsche Bahn. While the students from IGS Springe on the Stubai Glacier were able to demonstrate their newly acquired skiing skills in a final race followed by an awards ceremony, the class from the Unterpfaffenhofen State Secondary School not only got to see the winter sports on offer but also got an exciting insight behind the scenes of a ski resort. From technical introductions to slope preparation to a souvenir photo in a snow groomer to a visit to the mountain rescue center in Bad Tölz - the students got to know winter sports from a completely new perspective. They were also perfectly equipped with rental equipment provided by the regional Intersport specialist shop.

The winning class from Schleswig-Holstein also got their money's worth in the Carezza ski resort in South Tyrol. Despite the long journey, the young winter sports enthusiasts, most of whom had never been on skis before, were not discouraged and diligently learned to ski so that they could give their all in the final race. In addition to skiing, the students also had plenty of free time. Some went tobogganing and others explored the surrounding area.

The fourth winning class rounded off January with a special event. While the class members of the OBS Nienburg learned to ski in the Black Forest on the Feldberg, the first Para-Alpine Skiing World Cup took place in Germany at the same time.

All students and teachers experienced unforgettable moments during these weeks. The next five school classes are already looking forward to spending their winter sports week in Bavaria and Austria in February and March.

Such a project would not be possible without the numerous partners. Special thanks also go to the organizers of the school trips, Alpetour and Klühspies Reisen, as well as the regional tourism associations, the mountain railways involved and the ski schools.
